What do you lot think of the NFS Porsche Unlimited title?

I've bought NFS 2-SE and NFS 3 in the past and on both occassions
I've initially been impressed with the perceived quality of the package,

but when it came down to actually racing and attempting to experience
what was going on it becomes terribly dissapointing.

For example, in RC2000 or CMR or GP2 (or frankly, any other sim)
I can judge the corners quite nicely due to engine noise, visual cues
and the responsiveness of the graphics. I.e. I can make some
attempt to "actually drive" the computer car.

In any NFS title, it seems the only way to even
keep up with the AI competitors  is to have your foot hard down
at all times, and get around the corners any way possible - even
"bouncing"
off rocks and walls acheives better results than slowing down!

Is this just me? Did anyone actually "drive" NFS 3? It seems like the
worse driving similator I've come across. Allthe effort appears to
go into graphics and flash photos, but greater driving thrills could
be found in any budget racing game. (E.g. Toca 1, GP 1)

Can I take it that NFS 4 - even with the "porsche" name is a similarly
shallow offering ? - don't want to waste money again.

<pedant> NFS Porsche is actually NFS 5. Road Challenge was 4.</pedant>

Mind you, in 4 I often *feel* that I'm not in control of the car, unlike
GPL, GP2, etc. when I know I'm just ***at these games. (-:

There has been much discussion here regarding NFS:PU. A quick search
of Deja.com or a similar news webpage will give you a lot of
information. In short, it is the best of the series since the original
NFS. The physics model is excellent, the graphics are first rate, the
sounds are superb, and the gameplay is totally immersive. It is HIGHLY
recommended. You should also check out some of the game review
websites for more in-depth information.

NOOO Steven

If you look back through the threads in the NG, you will see NFS-PU
receiving alot of praise.

Its Graphics are amazing, and the physics modelling, has earned
considerable praise from the GPL crowd.  It is reputed to be a large
step forward for the NFS series.

The only downside with NFSPU seems to be replayability, once your
through it... what else is there.  Though I cannot comment on online
play.

I like it..I'm a Porsche guy though...might be a little biased...they seem
to have left out a few classics..like the 928 on pc version...available for
download later...but haven't seen any yet? The Evolution mode is a

through the decades...The tracks are excellent...especially some of the
country-ish runs...& the Autobahn......I agree that once u get through all
the levels....the playability might suffer a bit...they have a single race
mode, for quick runs, but I'm sure that will be tiring eventually....all in
all, the game is great if u have an outstanding graphics card....really
makes a difference....when there are lots of cars bunched together, gameplay
slows drastically.....

hope this helps

online play is very good, actually, seemingly not much warp - but only for a
few cars, 8 the max. One interesting thing to note is that you can put a
real photo of yourself in, and this is viewed by every player. You *used* to
be able to do this through the NFS version of Won, but I'm afraid one too
many kids put pictures of their***s on...so now you don't get the chance
to do that (although you still can via private IP, so my whopper's scanned
and ready to go...j/k)
Rather good game, IMO, and so much better than their previous efforts, in a
sim sort of way.

I can agree to the graphics but....the sound? At least NFS 4 supports EAX

Especially pay attention to those who don't think it's the best ever ;-)
