WOW!  what an amazing sim Mercedes-Benz truck racing is!

I just wish i had a faster puter to run it on!  (currently got a 400mhz
Celeron. I think a 1.2Ghz Athlon would be nice!  Pity i'm skint though)

So, what does everyone else think?

It's a great game once you turn off the speed limiter. Why that was
included, I'll never know ! And there is a handy benchmark tool thrown in as
a useful bonus.

No mystery, just read the included manual.  In real life the
series limits top speed for safety reasons (imagine the forces
generated when a 5000 kg vehicle running at 240 km/h
runs into something).

It is too slow, as a computer game, with the limiter ON. That is why there
is an option to turn it OFF. The mystery is why, when the makers clearly
realized this, did they bother having both options. Who the hell plays at
the limited pace ?

THe speed limiter is a real-life feature.  To have missed it out would be
like putting only 3 wheels on a nascar or something...  They're limited to,
i think, 100 mph.  Much more than that and the ensuing accident would have
so much energy  - quite destructive....i.e. the kinetic energy quadruples if
the speed doubles.

Just a brief example....

energy = 1/2 * m * v^2

Formula 1 car at 300 kph (Beginning of Villeneuves crash on Sunday)
energy = 1/2 * 750 x 83.3 ^ 2 = 2,602,083

Truck only doing 100 kph
energy = 1/2 * 10000 (guesstimate) * 27.7 ^ 2 = 3,858,024

Truck doing 200 kph would be 15,432,096 joules.  So a 125 mph truck crash,
is about 6 times more powerfull as a 190 mph F1 crash.... could job they
keep the speed down eh?

But yeah - as long as it's turn-on-and-off-able - then speed limiter is
alright - it's nice to open them up a little.

A GREAT game though, dont you think?!

Yes, I agree. And as I drive a truck for my living, I am aware that they are
governed. But the GAME is so slow in this mode. That is what I don't
understand.

People like me who place having an accurate simulation above
simply going fast in a straight line.

By far, 2000 sim of the year.  Others can't even touch it on about every
aspect of the sim.  Nobody wants to buy it, though and that's unfortunate.

Because the speed limiter is an integral part of Truck racing.

Anyway, by turning OFF the limiter you are actually enabling the arcade
mode.

But it's realistic.  This is not rec.autos.arcade, remember.

because thats how they race in real life?  I would imagine that it is a
more challenging race if you are limited in top speed.  All trucks will
have the same top speed, so it is not a case of the *fastest* truck
winning, but who ever drives the most skillfully and who uses the best
tactics.

Of course, some people would probably want  F1 sims to have cars which go
at Mach 3.

Yeah, i suppose thats why it was reduced to 19.99 in a local Electronics
Boutique!

Well ,I'd buy it if I could even find it in this sleepy old Ontario town.
The demo sold me with its lumbering great trucks sliding around corners.
Unfortuneatly the local software stores seem to know  nothing about the
title. Even the local EB, normally the best in this area, responded to my
enquiry with a "Its not on my list, Sir".  Is it widely available in QC?
Maybe I should do an Ottawa -Hull run.

This kind of thinking is why many have not found the fun of F3 in GPL.
Just cause the speed is not there, does not mean it is not fun. It is
even better for racing when all are slower as no one can just walk
away with the lead, unless there is an acident.
