Speak for yourself, you seem the person "irritated" in this thread.  He
simple answered you in a correct way.

This is to everybody.. will the Q3-compatible new drivers be able to :

- Run GPL at least the same quality than the 2.53 drivers
- Run Viper Racing without the polygon misses of the 2.53drivers
- Run most if not all the D3D and/or Glide racing sims correctly

>Listen Randy, I was asking a question and prefaced it with a "don't
>jump on me for simply asking" as I semi-expected a curt reply.

And you didn't get a curt reply. It was informative and polite, though
perhaps a slight measure of exasperation with 3dfx quality assurance
could be detected.

Good question , I wish I knew the answer !!!!
If the patch stuffs up the No CD utility, then the US GPL.exe (If we can get
it) would probably be a way around it.
Anyone know ????

GPL patch (readme)

by DPHI » Thu, 10 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I'm using the new Q3 drivers with a Maxi-Gamer V2 on a PII400, 128, SB Live and
Win 98. This is on a system that has been upgraded from a Pure3D and an Ensonic
PCI64 and has had tons of games and demos installed and removed, so god knows
what my registry looks like<g>.

So far, after a week of use, I've run GPL, Viper Racing, F1RS, MGPRS(demo),
Colin McRae, TOCA2(demo), SCGT and NFS3 without one lockup.

- I haven't noticed any  loss of quality or frame rate in GPL with the Q3
drivers.
- Viper Racing looks smooth as glass at 800x600.

I'm happy

Now I finally found a reason to buy GPL a second time. I'm going to
order
the US version of GPL tomorrow... bye, bye, Sierra Germany. ;^)

GPL patch (readme)

Randy, since I posted that note, I have downloaded the Glide 2.53 driver
file from http://grandprix2.ga-sports.com/gpl/, which is "The Fast Lane"
GPL site. This has completely (as near as I can tell) fixed the Voodoo2
problem. What is so irritating is that it was such a minor fix to drop
one file into the GPL directory. I wish I had know about it earlier.

I have enjoyed the challenge of GPL since I first got it when it was
released, but I had to run in software mode. Now with 3Dfx the game
looks fantastic at 800x600 with all graphics on. I only drop below 20
fps at the starts, and on the straights I am at the 36 fps limiter. Now,
if I only could keep from crashing so often!

GPL patch (readme)

by Mortado Fil » Fri, 11 Jun 1999 04:00:00

*snip*

I have the following list of racers (not all strictly sims) running
without problems on my Creative Voodoo 2 SLI rig running the Q3
compatible drivers-

GPL
Viper Racing
SBK
Motocross Madness
NFS 3
NASCAR 1999 (Windows version only)
and most of EA Sports 99 titles, some flight sims, and some 3d
shooters.

The only programs that I had problems with were

N23dfx/DOS NR1999 (reproduced on 4 systems)- works one time per
bootup, if you try to start it a second time, a black screen and hard
lock resulted. (Workaround- copy the glide2x.ovl file from the
Creative install CD to the game directory, works like a charm)

Starsiege- Kernel32 error when the new 3dfx splash screen tries to
start. I disabled the splash screen and it works fine.
Cheers,
Chris

One thing I (believe to) have recognized - and not on your list:
MGPRS2 gets stutter in the landscape.

GPL patch (readme)

Yep I get that too. This is on a PIII 450 with 128 MEG RAM. It's worse on my
new Savage 4 32 MEG than on My Voodoo 2 12 MEG. Especially when going round
corners the landscape jerks across the screen. Also I have run the complete
99 season install off the Unoffical MGPRS2 site and the audio is good but as
the car goes along there is a click as if there was a stone stuck in a tire
type of sound. In other words repetitive.
Also I have an SBLive! and there is a problem that causes the audio to drop
to half volume on the mixer slider. There was a correction that said to
modify an ini file but you had to change two lines not one as offered here.
Both the default = line and the in (something)= line to be the same. I'm
sorry I can't remeber it exactly but I'm at work and anyone who's tried it
without success should know what I'm talking about.
