Colin McRae Rally - screen all white..can't see the darned road !

by David Fros » Wed, 30 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Has anyone run "Colin McRae Rally" successfully on a Diamond Monster 3D II?
Even after installing the patch from
Codemaster's web site, reinstalling Directx6 and my monster drivers, the
whole screen appears to have a white tinge to it...and
I can see all the indidivudal polygons on the screen! This makes the game
completely unplayable of course..

I don't have this problem with any other game (eg: Quake2, Unreal,
Half-Life), except I have seen it before on a demo of Sierra's
"Viper Racing". I got around it then by disabling fog effects.

Any tips or explanations would be appreciated.

Try turning the gamma down in 3dfx properties or your monitor.  It might
help

I upgraded to the latest Diamond drivers in an attempt to solve my system
lockup problem) & got the white out, went back to the previous
(4.10.01.0201) driver supplied with the card and all was OK.

Yeah, it seems that version .0205 is buggy somehow. After I installed it my
CMR got white too. DIdn't have the guts to go back to the former version,
though.

Use Diamond Monster driver for DirectX5, not DirectX6. Had the same problem
and by using DirectX5 driver the game runs ok.
Best luck

The best way to cure this as i once had the problem is to install directx 6.1.
This works fine and so does all the other games no problem.
 Hope this helps Andy.
