Rules of Nascar in N2

I have been racing on N2 for some a couple of weeks.  I have been a
race fan for a couple of years but need some info on specifics when I
race.

1.  When entering the pits, where does pit speed take effect in the
game?

2.  During the race yesterday at Dover, when pit road opens on a
yellow, only cars on the lead lap were allowed to pit first, then
others.  Does this happen in N2?

3.  If I am in the pits on a yellow, and the pace car is on the front
stretch, at what point must I be at on pit road to not go a lap down?
(white stripe at end of pit road?)

4.  How accurate is the race to the start/finish line for a yellow?
I've been ahead of another car on the inside of the track by a fender
only to be put behind that car at the re-start.

An aside,  the N2 group within r.a.s should appoint one or two people
to start stockpiling ideas for Nascar3 to take to Sierra/Papyrus.  We
know it's coming sometime in the future.  With some well thought out
ideas/suggestions maybe we can make some impact.  The complaining and
whining in this group will not get Papyrus to make the game better.
One idea that I saw posted ( I apologize to the poster, I don't recall
who it was) was to have a 48+ car field and let them all qualify and
the 6 or 7 at the bottom (depending on the track) goes home. I'm sure
there are many more.

Wrong. Lapped cars pit the following lap. It's been that way wince
Nascar I
version 1.2. This rule is not enforced on the player, though.

Actually, I think N2 models those on the lead lap pit first while lapped
cars do pit later.  This was a patch for N1 and seems to hold true in
N2.  However, this rule is not imposed on the Human drivers.

at the beginning of the pits (usual your pit area rear end) and the end (thats
at the beginning of the first car pits area or sometimes in front of the pace
car, not really sure). other theory is pits beginns and ends with the wall
between track and pits. seems right for nearly all tracks except some with
longer entrance to the pits)

no, the whole file will pit in the same lap but some cars pit earlier and some
later depends on their tires. the ai cars have a pit window for green flag.
but there is no specific order who is allowed to pit first.

i think you must reach the finish line before the pace or other cars reach it.
could also be its the end of the pits (more realistic possibility) and end of
pits is there where the wall between track and pits ends.

thats a point, i have seen ai cars which where definitly behind a car at each
point of crossing finsih line and they where placed in front. seems like you
must be an car length in front way before the finish line or at least when you
touch the line with the front spoiler.
thats well said. good ideas are allways welcome. <g>

the pit speeds are watched from that big unocal76 ball on through.

It does for the AI, I've noticed that they follow it, but as long as pit
road is opened you can choose to pit with teh leaders even if you are a
lap down or more.

if the pace car crosses the start finish line before you do you are
lapped and will get stuck at the end....sometimes I think I've been
stuck in the middle of the pack also, but it seems to be the end or
nothing.

this has been noted before, its a grey area...it will switch the order
at times giving the later car the spot....
MOST EXCELLENT idea.....I heartily agree that someone should start
collecting up the ideas and such and posting them like once or twice a
month directly to papy. this would give them a running update on the
ideas and bugs and wot not that we find, and perhaps keep the screaming
fit throwers from annoying papy to death, as you say, the whining wont
accomplish anything.

I think this was a compromise they made because N2 doesn't support double
file restarts. Imagine being a lap down, and having to pit on the second
lap and come out behind all the lead cars. Of course, the AI cars have to
do this as well, but I can't think of a situation where I've ever seen an
AI car get a lap back.

Nope, it's the white stripe at the end of pit road. However, since the pace
speed generally matches pit road speed, there's a pretty good chance if you
are behind the pace car at the start/finish line, you'll probably still be
behind it when you cross the pit road stripe. You fall into line behind the
car that passed the pit road stripe just before you.

In real NASCAR races, there's a flagman at the end of pit road. When the
pace car passes the stripe, he holds all the cars at the end of pit road
until the pace line has passed.

Yeah, there are some problems here. I won a race at Talladega on Hawaii
when I actually should've finished 3rd. Three cars in front of me piled up
coming out of the tri-oval and I slid backwards across the line to take the
checkers. Under closer inspection, 2 of the 3 cars crossed the stripe ahead
of me, but all four cars crossed the stripe in the same frame.

The game has to make calculations for each car individually, and I would
guess that it picks the winner based on which car is calculated first. It's
pretty rare when races are this close (less than 7/100ths of a second).

Jim Sokoloff was taking suggestions for NASCAR 3, but has since left
Papyrus. I inquired if anyone else at Papyrus was willing to field
suggestions, but didn't get any takers.

I'd be willing to take on the role of collection suggestions and forwarding
them to Papyrus. I'd say there's a fair chance that I'll be beta testing
NASCAR 3 anyway.
