I have 3 letters for you... G  P  L ;)
Or the long version, Grand Prix Legends.

Is an old horse (released in 98), but with all the great addons there are
this baby matches the newest titles in graphics. The online code is by far
(along with Nascar 4 and 2002 wich are also developed by Papyrus) the best
out there. Gameplay is imo unic. Its very hard to master, but when you do,
you are in heaven ;)

Have a look at the GPLEA guys site : http://gplea.racesimcentral.com
The make the greates addon cars (not new cars, but new models).  Gives you
an idea of what kind of eyecandy to expect from GPL.

P.s. There is a new dog in town. It's called Live for Speed, and will be
among us... hmm sometime next year. But there is a demo out, and its a hole
lot of fun. Works great online too. http://www.liveforspeed.net

External 28.8 cleared up a ton of problems for a friend of mine. The way The
Geforce and SoundBlaster cards like to hog up the PCI bus he was always
getting the 100035 error. Which is a Winsock error for device not available.
I think the death of the ISA bus and there fore the ISA modem is the main
problem for modems, not so much the game software.

Getting rid of a winmodem is always a good move.

You get back CPU cycles, PCI bandwidth, and IMHO
internal PCI modems get ***connection performance
as well (probably because they rely on CPU cycles
being available).

A good external serial or USB modem works wonders for
online play.  The only thing I can suggest better is
a dedicated linux or freebsd gateway.  (oh - and get
cable ffs :)
