This groups always going on about having a realistic sim

If you want a realistic F1 sim - turn Traction Controll, Auto Upshift and
Launch control all on.

I drive with TC on for that very reason.

......and i don't have to switch it off to prove the length of my*** like
the testosterone charged hotlap boys who look down their noses at any lap
that isn't completed with ALL aids off...!!!

Realism,SIMULATION is what we ask for and with TC on we have it.

Agree, only turn off ABS braking, but leave LC and TC on for realism.

But what about steering help.

Entirely unrealistic - but it's 4 seconds a lap faster when you turn it on -
and that puts me right at the sharp end of the AI - instead of mid field

Not anymore, but the Williams FW17 in 1992 had it. It was banned 1993 along
with the active suspension, tc, etc.
yes.. F1 were much better back in the old days :)

Steeringhelp is for keyboard users. It increases your grip in the tires btw.
Just turn it off?.

Well, in F1 2002, i think the LC works pretty good. You sit and watch
the lights, and then release the button and the car flies away.
But it also depends on your setup, how much grip you got etc.

I think its pretty fun.. but its more a showoff on how good the technicians
in the team are
and how fast reactions the driver has.

I think if you get good without the cheats and master all aspects of driving
you'll find it much more gratifying. You won't want to use the cheats.

They're not cheats.

Since the first one, cars have been built God knows how many different ways.
One is not more *pure* than the other.

OK, I should have said current F1 cars - BTW, that FW17 timewarped to 92,
and had ABS retro-fitted? Mansell and Patrese drove FW14B in 92. (-:

I remember in the early 1900s when I as a driver had to avoid bumps in the
ground, just to make sure the chassi didnt brake, but now with these modern
aids as suspension, etc, i can just run over them. What a crazy world :(
Or when i had to put in 1st gear with the engine constant at 800revs, and
then wait until i reached about 10km/h just to force in 2nd gear. Or what
about the new steeringwheel that dont hurt my hands when i run into
something as much as it used to be?, that is for kids for gods sake.
Downforce?, bah i prefer old fashion lift!.

no serious. Since all drivers in F1 uses them, its not a cheat, is it?
and for F1 2002, you dont have to use it, just wait for the red to drop, and
drive away.

I mean, how many drive GPL with throttle and brake and autogears?.
TC in F1 2002 just makes you slower, cause the engine dont rev up in corners
as it use without it. I usually only enable TC in rain, cause you dont have
any g-forces that says if you spin or not :)

Well, you're right on this one, so here is my opinion of a "realistic"
setup:
Steering Assistance Off
Opposite Lock Assistance Off
Braking point Assistance Off
Stability Assistance Off
Spin Recovery Assistance Off
Invulnerability Off
Auto Shifting Off (or Upshift)
Traction Control Low or High depending on your taste
Anti-Lock Brakes Off
Pit Lane Assistance Off
Clutch Assistance On/Off depending if you have 2 or 3 pedals.

This is how I set my Championship. Low / High on TC depends on the weather,
the tracks grip and my skills on a specific track.

Other opinions?
