VROC setup everytime now

dammit.

I gotta setup vroc everytime I connect.  Ive tried re-installing Netsuck,
enable cookies, cache , the works.
No matter what I do it doesn't stick.  One thing i noticed, when I setup
netscape to warn about cookies, I get a dialog box showing the date and time
that the cookie expires and the date/time stamp is allways the exact moment
that it appears on my screen.  So basically the cookie expires when i get
it?   It's a real pain.

just whinin.

I've got exactly the same problem.  The information will only last as long
as Netscape is loaded. When Netscape is closed the cookie goes away. I use
IE 4 as my default browser and only use Netscape for VROC. Cookies are
enabled.. Wonder if IE is blocking Netscape...?

That setup (IE4 default browser), works fine for me, so I don't think its
IE4. I did install Netscape after IE4 mind.

No problem with Win98/Netscape 4.5 here (IE dismembered with tweakui btw).
Haven't I seen mentioning somewhere that at some point NN4.5 would become
required?

Only problem I've allways had is that the pings don't show (NN4.04 did that
neither), although I've put gping.exe in my GPL directory (I think my
provider has put up some kind of protection against back orifice and the
likes, maybe that could be the problem?).

VROC setup everytime now

Hi Ren,

I got the same problem. Alison Hine reported that the reason could be
a foreign install of Windows98. She was right, I've installed the
Dutch version. Since you're Dutch I suspect that you've installed the
Dutch version of Windows98, too,  and therefor you should've the same
problem as me. :-P

The VROC software is looking for the word 'Reply' when consulting a
ping request, and I believe the Dutch version of Windows98 doesn't use
that word. Alison Hine also reported that with the new version of
VROC, currently in development, this problem is one of the past.

> Remco

Hi Remco,
You're correct, I'm using the Dutch version too, so that's the reason.
I already contacted Randy Magruder about it, but they didn't know back
then. We'll see when they've managed to catch the goblin when the pings
show up.

But to address the original problem of the thread :
Netscape 4.5 looses VROC setup too. But it only happenend to me just a
moment ago, since I changed something today. Come to think of it, I'll
check cookies.txt...
Mmm, there's no gamestats cookie saved, I think there's something wrong
with the expiration date. Netscape will use a cookie that is send with
an expired date until it is shut down, it doesn't save such a cookie so
next time fired up there is none.
I'll contact Alison about it.

Sorry guys,

I'm not Dutch, I'm Arizonan (just to keep the petty nationalism alive). I
also must re-enter all my information each time I log on to VROC.

I am also looking forward to the new version of VROC. Any hints on when
average Joes like us will see it?

Hi Mike,
Well, it's two seperate things here.
- The language thing applies only to the pings not showing.
- The setup problem is, as I suspect, cookie date related and has nothing to
do with the language of Windows. I've already emailed Alison about my
  thoughts on this.

Nope, this Joe doesn't know :).

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. VROC used to save my setup
info. but that was before I got a cable modem. Now I have to re-enter it
every time I start VROC. Cookies are enabled. Oh...I'm in Ohio, USA with a
English version of Win98.

I'm using Communicator 4.5 (English version) so that blows your theory
out of the water. The problem is with VROC itself.

It started working for me again this afternoon. Apparently Randy
tracked the problem down and did his magic. :-)

Hi Brent,

Errr, the problem I responded to was the lack of ping times in VROC,
not the Cookie problem. That problem is foreign OS related, not
Netscape related.
