T2 going on fritz?

Hello fellow racers.  Last x-mas I treated myself to a T2 :)  Well,
since GP2 came out, I noticed that around centre, my car just kept
'jerking' to the right.  It was really noticable when coming out of a
bend or making slight corrections down a straitaway.  It would always
step to the right a bit.  I stopped playing GP2 for this reason.  My
ham-fisted approach to driving meant I was always either in the grass
or a sand trap.  I thought the joystick routine in GP2 was to blame
and went back to Nascar.
Well, it's now doing it in Nascar.  And always around centre my car
skips to the right a bit.  The problem is, with Nascar when it skips
to the right, I end up in the wall.  The 'skip' or 'jerk' isn't a big
movement, but when you push the envelope to the edge (for my skill
that is), it makes a difference between running consistent laps or
finishing last. :(
When I went into the Nascar control calibrabration last night in a
last ditch effort to give it one last try, the reading I was getting
were very odd.  I would steer right, and it would read about 700ish
(if memory serves).  Then I would steer left and it would read around
2 or 5.  But when I straightened out the wheel, my right reading shot
up to something like 5000!  Yes, five thousand.  And when I do
straighten out, I ease it back.  I don't turn it 'til it stops and
then let it go.
Obviously, something is either broken or worn out inside.  I sent
Thrustmaster some e-mail but haven't heard anything from them yet.
Can anyone hlep me?

        Thank you in advance.

You've got a Pot (Potentiometer) going bad in Your T2 setup and all You
need to do is call Thrustmaster and they'll send You a new one or You may
send it back for Repair.  Better get it quick,  1 Year is in about 1 month!

Get a new POTENTIOMETER from Thrustmaster.  You may try cleaning you
existing potentiometer using TV Tuner cleaner or similar solvent while you
are waiting for your new one.  This can be done by opening the unit and
spraying the solvent right into the pot located at the end of the steering
shaft.  This will often fix the problem - at least for a while.  This can
be done without a soldering iron - which is required to replace the pot.

Hi there,

The problem is in the potentiometer. It has a bad spot on it.

You can e-mail Thrustmaster for replacement and you will receive it/them within
a week. But I also saw a posting here in RAS (though it's already some time ago),
that there's a Thrustmaster e-mail adress on which you don't get a reply.

You can go through their home-page
http://www.thrustmaster.com/tm-home.htm
or you can directly go to the mail-form to ask them to ship you a replacement at
http://www.thrustmaster.com/service/servmail.htm
BTW There is no T2 mentioned in the device-list, but you can mention it in your text.

T2 going on fritz?

It's most probably your pot that's bad. It's the Potentiometer. If you
open it (don't worry, I've done it) you'll see how empty that piece of
***is (sorry, not a fan of the T2). Anyways, follow the end of the
shaft and you'll see a round piece of metal with 3 "legs" at the end.
Take it out, and remember where the wires went. Go to Radio Shack and
ask the guy for the exact same thing. A pot between 100 and 200 should
do great. The higher it is, the more "gradience" you'll have. Go back
home, slap it in, weld the wires back in the right place, and put the
screws back in. Total cost, under 5$. If you don't trust yourself, go
here:

This is a GREAT web site that explins exactly HOW to build a great
steering wheel setup, or boost up your existing one. VERY cool.
