Can I race in VROC without a web browser?

by Jo » Fri, 16 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I'm just wondering, is it possible my GPL 1.1 warping problems are
related to the new VROC ActiveX applet? I have no reason to suspect it
is, except that it's the other change that came along with GPL 1.1. Is
there a GameSpy-like utility that will let me joing VROC races without
a web browser? If there is I want to try it to eliminate that variable
from the equation.

Actually now that I think about this it's not impossible that VROC
could be the problem ... does the applet continue to run and download
race information once GPL has been started, or is the web browser
"suspended"? If it's still running, could there be a problem with the
applets auto-refresh that causes warping in GPL?

Is there a way to turn auto-refresh off in VROC 2.0? I find it kind of
annoying anyway, I prefered the old manual-refresh.

Ah, I just found GPL Spyboy, and am downloading it. Does it work with
1.1, or just 1.0?

Of course if you can have someone send you the IP address of the machine
hosting you can quit GSB/VROC and connect directly via IP address

Game Spy Boy version 2 is a standalone program (well so is version 1 but
you'll only see 1.0 races).

Check out http://www.racesimcentral.net/ for GSB.

Jason.

Well this is very interesting. Just played my first working-fine,
warp-free GPL 1.1 online race - via GPL GameSpy 2 (beta)! I'm going to
go back and to a little more testing, one more race via web browsed
VROC, one more via GameSpy, and report my findings back here.

I'm sure several hundred of us that have been racing on VROC with GSB
for several months now will interested in your 3 tests.
