Poor Frame Rate in GP500

by Peter Blackmo » Sun, 04 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Does anyone have a remedy for poor frame rates in GP500? I have a Pentium
III 500-Mhz machine, 128-MB RAM with a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 16-MB. I can
only race with about 6 bikes; any more causes a very choppy interface.
Quite unuseable.

Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter

get the latest drivers, reduce some graphics options.
I have  a PII 400 with a v3 3000 and it runs with all bikes at 1024x748

Also try turning down some sound quality. It could work.

BTW: At which Resolution are you trying it? I can run the game full detail
in 800x600 with my PIII-450, Riva TNT 16 mb and 128 mb SDram

Running 1024x768, set for "high-speed" play, rather than "high-detail". I
did get the latest drivers, and the latest Glide3. There's something more
I'm missing, 'cause I can't get even six bikes to work at Suzuka. Any
more an the screen is so choppy, you can't play the game.

i don't understand your problem:
I have a P3 450, 128 RAM and a "poor" ATI 128 16 Mo and the game is perfect
at 1024X768.

Have you tried the latest leaked betas from 3dfx?  (goto
3dfx.products.voodoo3 NG for links).  They've even added an overclocker,
and you should easily be able to bump your 2000 (143Mhz) up to equal a
3000 (166Mhz) - add a fan to the H/S just to be safe.  With the
overclocker you can also diable V-sync - you might be hamstrung by your
monitor.
Also, check your task manager - are you sure you don't have some
background tasks/apps slowing things down?
What kind of M/B do you have?

HTH,
Kendt
