NASCAR:Hawaii car setups.

I am having some minor problems with the car setups in Hawaii and would
appreciate any help.  I find that I am consistantly 7 or 8 mph behind the
leaders on qualifying and during the race.  I ran a race last night where
I qualified 6th and finished 2nd, but that was with a set configuration.
That seems to tell me that setup is the problem.  I have read through the
NASCAR manual (yes I did buy the game - the day it was released) and have
set the car up and achieved 194mph laps at Taledaga off-line, but on-line
I go right back to 187.  Don't know what I am missing here.  Please feel
free to reply with suggestions, or mail me some awesome setups for the
car.  I know these are top-secret, but I can hardly be perceived as a
threat for some length of time.

I think the weather setting in the hawaii game is set different than what
you have it set at for when you are racing alone. If the weather at
hawaii is set so that the air temp is hotter or colder this could be the
difference

Make sure you are testing and tuning your setups with MULTI.EXE and NOT
NASCAR.EXE...there is a difference.  MULTI.EXE can be started from the command line
in much the same manner as NASCAR.

How can one do this unless they connect with someone else or Hawaii?

When you run the MULTI.exe instead of NASCAR.exe you have two options to race.  One is a
Multi-player race with a modem opponent and the other is preseason testing.  Even though
you will be the only car on the track, preseason testing allows you to tweak setups of use
on-line.  Also before joining a race on-line, use the F4 (or is it F3?) key to see the
race's settings.  You will be able to see not only what other racers are currently joined,
but you can see that temperature and wind as well.  Weather can effect setups to a certain
degree (no pun intended).

It is F4.  Does anyone know if the traction bug was fixed in Multi.exe.
I may be calling this the traction bug incorrectly.  The one I'm talking
about is the one where you could improve your setup just by going in and
out of the garage (not changing anything while you're in there).  But
the next time you loaded the setup, it wasn't worth squat.

How about starting a newsgroup specifically for Hawaii. I'm getting fed
up with reading endless irrellevant posts about a *** system I can't
use due to living in the UK.

rec.autos.simulators.hawaii anyone?

It is better than seeing endless posts about a F1 game that is not even
out yet (and might never be). If you don't want to read about Hawaii,
don't.

Good idea, especially with the volume of posts on HAWAII in this n.g.

Ouch, THAT was a rude slam.  <g>

GP2, etc. posts.... <g>

I'd rather read posts about GP2 forevermore than hear another "I was
running second right, and some newbie decided.......<yaaaaaaaaawn>".

There's a Hawaii mailing list where you can exchange war stories!

That sounds like a good idea. My vote is a definite YES.

Someone Admin type person running a news server sets one up. The
newsgroup will then become available to all other servers on the internet.

I would have to agree, although it is all quite interesting it is
starting to take over the newsgroup. There is nothing stopping us
reading it as well if interested.
BTW maybe we can get a new newsgroup for GP2 started, maybe
REC.AUTOS.YOU.MUST.BE.KIDDING or REC.AUTOS.NEXT.MONTH or ....... you
get the idea!!

Anthony
