GPL online with cable: newbie questions

by Peter Prochazk » Tue, 12 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hi folks!
I've decided to jump into the cold water and try out GPL online!
I just have some questions in setting up my system for online racing, since
I use a cable connection and have not found too many infos about this:
1) I have installed GSB 1.99.0.10. Is this the latest version? I've heard it
won't work with 1.2, so I went back to 1.1. I suppose, most (if not all)
races are hosted with 1.1, right?
2)Which changes do I have to make in core.ini for best performance with
cable? (as client for now). Is there a good one to download, if so, where?
Especially, what's about sync_method(?), 1.0 or 1.1?
3)Does it make sense to change anything regarding MaxMTU, RWIN etc.?
If so, which values are best for racing online with cable?
4)Regarding graphics settings and fps: I get about 30-31 fps offline at the
start in Monza, dropping to about 24-25, when everything moves, then quickly
stabilizing at 36 (19 opp., last position). Is that enough for an online
race or should I turn off something?

Thanx!

You should read the tech section here

Yes, your puter runs GPL fine for online, in fact it sounds like you should be
hosting!
Do not wait, online is wayyyy more fun and satisfying than offline racing .Have
fun.
