: I agree, racing in the wet seems nearly impossible. I've tried changing
: everything from tires to gear ratios with little success. During one
: race, after spinning off for the 400th time I spent some time in the
:***pit of the race leaders and found that they seem to do a lot of short
: shifting. However, when I tried it everyone blew by me. It seems the
: only way to win is "block and punt", but that's not too sporting.
Practice practice practice! It can be done, you just need to adjust
your driving style.
Start off with really big wings and get used to the way the car keeps
wanting to break away under acceleration. Try not to accelerate or brake
while turning to start with. You were right about the short-shifting,
particularly important in the first three gears.
As you get the hang of the car, start to reduce the amount of wing.
The best way to get practice is to go into the 'quick race' menu and
select a track like Hockenheim or Monza, set the laps to the maximum
and weather to wet. You can go into a championship race to change the
setup of your car and then keep going back to the quick races for
practice.
If you get really good, you should be able to win the German Grand Prix
in the wet with your DRY setup, just using the wet tyres. The little
speed you lose in the corners is easily made up on the straights!
