I've just changed to manual gears and was wondering if you had to release
the accelerator pedal completly when changing gear or just ease off the
throttle slightly and change ? Will i damage my engine and get a lot of
header problems if i don't release the throttle completly ?

You can change without lifting when the damage is turned off (Novice mode).
You can risk it for a quick lap with more difficult settings, but generally
the engine won't take much abuse... especially the Cosworth.

You dont hav to release throttle completely, its a matter of feel.
Practise and you will hear when time is there to change and stab again.

I try to lift just enough so that the revs match during and after the shift.
You don't have to do it perfectly.  Overrevving the engine once or twice in
a realistic damage race really isn't a big deal.  (Except maybe with the
Eagle.  I don't drive that one much)  I guess lifting completely would be
the safest way, but I can't even remember the last time I blew an engine
with my usual technique.

BTW be careful not to downshift too early.  That's a very easy way to
overrev. Especially in the Lotus and Brabham.
