Could he even play the game if he's in 256 mode? I'm not trying to be
smart here, but why would he be in 256 mode, especisally for graphics?

James has the right answer :)
I'm using an old Tseng Labs W32p and anything more than 256 colours in
Win95 is pretty slow. Someone else mentioned it could be my jpg
viewer, I use either Qpeg or Paintshop Pro. All I've noticed is that
when i convert jpg's to gif's, they do look better, although much
larger.

Because the old Tseng Labs card in my P166 is just too slow.
I'm waiting to see what happens with the new 3D cards before I buy
something new. Maybe the Voodoo, maybe the Rendition. Still not sure
though.
Your reply brings me to a question though, GP2 is a Dos game and
as far as I know doesn't use more than 256 colours. Or does it?

I've no idea, J.J. ... perhaps the person we're arguing over can clear
this up and tell us his configuration.  Or we can drop it and leave him
preferring 8-bit to 24-bit?
