So you agree it's not a one make series?

Same with NASCAR. What was your point again?

It's the same point that a group of guys here always try to make.

Things were better in the old days of F1.

Of COURSE it was, David!
Every generation says exactly the same thing because during the years of
THEIR greatest interest (usually from early adolescence through the
thirties) it was "better", simply because it was all they experienced.

My 85 year-old father looks back with great fondness to the pre-war years,
when he was a ***ager.
A 65 year-old friend has the 1950's as his favourite era.
For me - 57 - I dive into the 1960's with great affection.

And so it will ever be - and not only for motor-sport but for EVERYTHING
that we associate with those years of our youth.

Bruce.

The tracks were better, the racing was better, the cars were more
distinctive, and there was no corporate bs surrounding it.

Face it , David, your are just an F1 fanboy. Plus you are only happy if
MS wins. Which forces me to conclude:

You are not a true motor racing fan!

I, on the other hand, am happy to watch any series as long as it is
entertaining. I hold no particular formula of driver in great reverence.
That makes me a true fan.

I said it's a "one make" series.  Meaning that only a very few cars have a
hope of ever getting close to winning.
Did you know that if you bet money om MS to win a race these days - you
barely brake even if he does!.

NASCAR *is* a "one make" series - they even run common templates for the
cars!  Nontheless there's no telling how might win the next race - nor how
going to win the series way before it's even started...

F1 has come so far away from a sport that it's sickening.  Do you have any
idea what it takes to run a F1 teams these days?  How's 150 people doing R&D
24 hours a day  (running 3 shifts a day) for 365 days a years..  No wonder
they got budgets well over $300 million a year..

Is that what you call a sport?

And to top it all of - it's even dull. There's 4 seconds of action on the
start, some minor fibble aorund the pit-stops, and thats it...   Heck they
even complain 'cause they can't get passed cars they're about to lap!

GOD! I miss the "old" days!  Mansell, Rosberg, Piquet, Senna - hell even
Prost and Hill!  Back then people still had personalities and acted like
themself, not a bunch of corporate puppets. 'Seen Raikkonen being
interviewed? Man, the guy is so scared of saying something that might upset
Dennis - it hurts to watch! Atleast Mika had some sense of self-irony.

Oh, the language barrier. F1 is not a "one make" series, but one team
dominated it for a couple of years now. It'll change, probably as soon
as MS retires... ;)

There are different car makers (not the brand names) involved,
as far as I know.

BTW, that Jeff Gordon domination in 199? was really something.
If a team is good AND lucky, any series is able to become a "one make"
series.

Absolutely!  Two sims I'd buy if someone would just develop them:
  - Indy 500 (1909 - 2003): historical models of both track and cars
for every year there was a race
  - SCCA Challenge: most of the tracks have already been done, and a
lot of the cars as well.

I would most *definitely* get this one.  But, can you imagine taking 6 hours to
run the 1911 race...? :-)

I don't know a lot about the SCCA series, but I'd probably be interested.
