I've been playing viper racing the last few days, something that really
really really pisses me off is the AI. It is too easy for you to spin and
too hard for them to spin. They are like ghost cars, hardly ever move a bit
off their line if you stick it up under them, its really annoying. Apart
from the A (just artifical because of their lack of I), viper racing is
quite fun. Its hard to get a feel for it, it looks like an arcade game,
everything is arcade really except for the physics model, and because of
this i tend to forget how real it is, causing the odd spin or 2. The
paintkit is AWESOME, i hope sierra use something similar to this in NASCAR
2000 because it makes it alot easier.

Are you playing in simulation mode?Career mode?Do you know how to set up your
car?Do you know how to steer with the throttle?I've found that GPL has been
great training for me,as the principles of handling high HP cars applies to
both sims.

If you're spinning exiting corners, you need to apply the throttle
gradually.Learn the feel of the car, where the grip factor is.Apply the brakes
gradually before the corner.Spend time hotlapping to develop car control. This
is not NFSIII,real car physics apply here,it takes time to learn how the car
reacts.

I just graduated to pro class in career mode, and I must say the AI is
incredible! They do make mistakes, you can knock them off their line, drive
defensively to protect your lead. The replay mode is an excellent way to watch
the AI respond to your actions,to see the mistakes you make,to figure out the
best line.I can now trail brake into corners, induce oversteer, and power out,and
the feeling is great! So spend more time learning how to control  these heavy
beast,Viper Racing is well worth it!

Actually I have seen them spin and crash. My only beef with them is
ignoring your car (and life!) when taking their line around a corner.

I'm gonna have to disagree here. I have seen many many mistakes by the AI
drivers. I can't tell you how many times I'll crest the top of a hill and on
the other side are 3 or so cars all over the track or in the grass. I see AI
cars reacting to other AI cars all the time. They'll lock up their brakes
trying to avoid a crash and swerve into the grass to avoid an accident. Plus,
not sure this is just coincidence or not, but many times I have bumped a car
enough to 'whip them out' and that same car comes back, if it catches up to me,

times. It helps to bump up the number of cars to 19 or so to see all this
happen. Plus its tons more fun with 19 cars in the race. :)

Yeh ive noticed the same slide handling in Viper Racing. You can feel the
car slide
as you round the corners, you just power into the corners power sliding as
you go.
It feels like the real thing. Too much gas and around you go and you begin
flipping.
I think the game engine is great considering the game is only 70 meg big..
alot of tight
coding went into this game. Well worth the 29.95 price.

Id like to know how you get 19 cars in Viper Racing as well.
The most I see is 8 in a race.

The ini file will allow you to go up to 18.  Mgi has released a race.bin
file to Two Sheds which will allow you to have up to 63 cars!  Check his
site, at http://welcome.to/viper_racing

Email this guy. He has a special 'race.bin' file for demo 2.2 that allows
some very cool stuff to be done to the game i.e. change # of cars, change
mirror, allows you to map a key to left, right and behind view and  tres
cool it allows change to field of view. Its only for the demo but its
definitely worth a look to see the potential.

He's the webmaster at http://welcome.to/viper_racing
He's got a news thing right on his site all about this stuff.

With just the plain old 2.2 demo and stock 'race.bin' you can do a max of
16(?) cars( 14 AI, your car and ghost car, I think). You need to edit the
'options.cfg' file in the options dir. Make these changes 'ai_car_count
14'  and 'car_count 16' and save the file. Run the game but DO NOT touch
the arrows for the number of AI cars in the menu. It should say 14 AI cars
when you fire up the demo and do a quick race.

Note: You will need fairly fast machine hardware. I'm running a 128mb,
12mb V2 and a PII233 oc'ed to 291. 16 cars is fairly smooth. Estimate a
lowest frame rate of 15fps or so with an average of 30fps on my rig. At
more than 20 cars my rig starts to start to slow more than I like.

Yes indeed.  I was impressed when watching a replay of a close one
at "Dayton" when I saw that the AI car who'd gotten a nose under
me got himself loose trying to avoid making contact with my rear
quarterpanel as I drifted down a bit.  Imagine that -- a computer
car actually trying not to hit you when you start encroaching!
In any other sim I've seen, the computer car would just hold its
line and you'd both end up crashing.  This really allows for you
to do some defensive driving which you can't do in other sims.

The AI can be a bit too aggressive sometimes, though.

I'm tired of being ass-ended at 'Dundee' or whatever that track is.

The AI does improve, it seems, in Pro Class.

BTW.. It took me 17 seasons to get to Pro class.  I suspect I'll be here
for weeks!
