  That's not why I'm complaining.  In fact, I wasn't complaining. I was
asking.

Shoot ME because you're doing something against the common curtisy
rules on Usenet? It's not my fault if you don't know the rules, mate.

As both Thom J and I said, we understand that now, but we didn't at
the beginning.

You're obviously getting annoyed about my asking you not to use HTML,
so I'll stop, as I find it best not to start a flaming war.

[To supplement what you've pointed out so effectively, Mike]

In another thread, The Excelsior [I can't even take *myself* too seriously
when I type that] complained...

"Michael! You're still writing in HTML!!!"

My response to Excelsior:

Excelsior! You're still writing, and writing, and writing, and writing...

Do yourself (and RAS) a favor and go outside and get some fresh air. Then
when you've had ample opportunity to enjoy some of the many wonderful things
the external world has to offer, come back and make some *MEANINGFUL*
contributions to RAS.

Consider this:

1. If everyone posted with your frequency, it would be extremely difficult
for all RAS readers to unearth the meaningful information we all seek.

2. When you were posting under the name "Griffin The Slayer" (which is quite
clear despite your earlier claim that your "friend" Griffin had a PC with
*360* MB of RAM) I made the following comment to you:

"And by the way, and I say this in a well-meaning way, newsgroups are like
race tracks. It pays to take it easy and get familiar with the course before
you go tearing around at breakneck speed."

You seemed to be a little befuddled by my comment at the time. I was simply
encouraging you to go slowly until you were better able to recognize your
level of expertise, the expertise of others, and the value (or lack thereof)
of your contributions.

3. Intermittently changing your name detracts from your credibility.
Credibility is an important asset that we all value...both our own and that
of others. In addition to the information presented by Mike Armstrong,
consider this posting history:

Far too many common themes to be coincidental, in my opinion.

4. Placing you in a killfile is not the desirable alternative, as you surely
have significant contributions to offer.

Again, these comments are offered with good intentions. If you more
carefully consider the value of your contributions, you'll be doing yourself
and RAS a real service.

If I remember correctly, he is simply a new guy and is like a kid
with a new toy. I remember being the same myself. Of course, after a
while it's a matter of "I've said it all before" or "I've seen it all
before". Leave him alone :) And btw, who cares how many posts you've
made or if your #2 or whatever? If you've got something to say, say it!

OK then Excelsior, first the similarities (and you asked for this)

1.  Hotmail account every time (speaks volumes),
2.  Excelsior, Griffin, Phoenix (Starfleet commander being the
exception) subject matter,
3.  UK based UUnet posting host,
4.  ICQ No (with # sign)
4.  (I repeat) repetitive pointless posts.

I can't prove that you are either 'Phoenix, the Magician' or 'Griffin,
the Slayer' however, anyone with a little intelligence can see that
the similarities in subject matter and header content link you
irrefutably.

Excelsior, I hate to do this but have a look at the following two
headers, from a post you followed up to yourself in the recent thread
'Nascar using GPL Physics.'.  I especially draw your attention to the
Path start point, the 'NNTP-Posting-Host' and also the 'X-Trace:' IP

Man, Griffin/Phoenix, look at the headers, even a two-year-old could
see you're one and the same

Last time I looked, blokes also had tits, only much flatter.

The only way you can prove to me that you have nothing to do with
Griffin, Phoenix and 'Starfleet Command' is to stop posting 'Yes I
agree with that' type messages to everything that you agree with (it's
called thinking before you speak).

If I agree, why shouldn't I say so? And how this will prove to anybody
that I am not Griffin/any-of-the-others, I don't know.

As for Hotmail, there were more than 1,000,000 users of Hotmail last
year, a huge number of those were from the UK. So I'm afraid that
really can't say much for your Hotmail argument.

Anyways, I have had plenty of time on my hands in recent weeks, but
will be starting a new job on Sunday, which will leave me less time
for RAS. It's sad, but it's true.

Which is fair enough, and much appreciated.

Same as above.

I still tell you that since I bought this computer (I use it for
little else other than Usenet, E-mail and the internet), second hand,
a few weeks/couple of months (?) ago, I only been using The Excelsior
as an alias, and have not used any before that.

It's not my place to try to convince anybody else of this, so I won't.
However I can appreciate peoples request for me to post less, and I
will be sure to cut down on them in the future, as my intention was
never to insult or cause a flame war.

Whatever his name is, he can post as much as he wants, and say what he
wants, regardless of whether he he is the most knowledgable, or least, sim
enthusiasist at r.a.s.

If yo0u don't like what he has to say, put him in your killfile. Then you
won't need to make lecturing, condescending, posts to him anymore.

I also don't see the point in going through someone's newsgroup posting
history and publishing it here for all to see.

You have a point...actually he really can help someone in GPL and should not
be "pressured" just because he is only trying to do some good, even if he
does it so much and use different names.

So far I've been able to do a 1:36.12 in my Brabham, but I
must confess to driving the Lotus once to a 1:35.3x.  I'm
not sure if it will really be possible to make it into the
1:30's like Dave said the true GP cars were doing back then.
Five seconds is an awful lot of time to make up...  If it
is possible, though, I'm sure WW will find a way. :)
