Need for Speed Motor City preview

Just read the (two-part) preview for Need for Speed Motor City. Sounds
like someone at EA decided to try something new - physics-based
driving/upgrade model and persistent on-line world. Check out this
very interesting read:

Need for Speed Motor City preview

: I don't even care if the physics are dumbed down.  I imagine they can
: manage the level of feel of Gran Turismo, and for me, purchasing and
: upgrading an old bit of Detroit iron is a lot more interesting than
: kitting out a Civic.

Of course, the ultimate challenge for me will be to somehow wrench
together a winner starting with some junkyard trash.  I hope one of the
"custom paint schemes" available is a "primer motif" :)  What early 70s
Camaro would be complete without a primer paint job??  Having spent more
weekends than I care to admit on my back in the mud scavenging parts from
wrecks to keep my early motors together, success in this game could be a
form of virtual payback...

I will give EA credit... there are some bright bulbs working there, at
least in terms of concept.  This could become a rather compelling online
experience.  I mean, who didn't read "Hot Rod" magazine growing up (if you
were born in North America, were male, and born in the 60's at
least).  Even after living in Europe for several years, and driving
socially responsible compact cars, deep in my heart burns the desire to
get a '65 Mustang and wrench on some of the best stuff Edelbrock has to
offer.

I don't even care if the physics are dumbed down.  I imagine they can
