GPL, any reason to go to 1.2 (off-line)?

by Arto Wik » Sun, 07 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Is there any reason for an off-line racer to change from 1.1 to 1.2 ?
I know there should be some real-time/sim-time problems in 1.1, but I
have never noticed those. I read the readme, and didn't see any reason
for changing there.

PS Yes, I am too slow driver and lazy practiser for on-line races...
And I am happy that only AI-Clark and other AI-fellows can verify
   that...      ;-)

I'm fairly recent to the online racing world (I bought the game the day it
came out), but let me tell you that it is fantastic.  You are seriously
missing out if you don't try it.  I didn't think it could get much better
than the offline experience, but let me tell you, it's a different world.  I
never play offline anymore.

Seriously, download some decent setups, give an easier track most of your
time, and try an on-line race.  You'll never look back!

And to answer your question, as far I can tell you might as well upgrade.
Things should be no worse, but will stand you in better stead should you
wish to take the plunge!

Cheers,

None whatsoever.
I have 1.1.0.3 and that's the way it's staying. More to risk losing by going
to 1.2 than by sticking with what I have.

Make a copy of your exe file, and at least try 1.2... it works perfect
for me, you can allways go back... and with 1.1 you won't be able to
race online anymore, since allmost everyone has 1.2 installed now.

The online racing was bad the last months, since the beta release of
1.2. The hotlappers competitions mostly stopped because of the slowmo
problems. All those different versions that were available (1.1.03,
1.1.0.14, 1.2) didn't really help. I think it would be a very good
thing if everybody would update to 1.2 now, so that we finally all
have the same versions again.

I second Andre on this one too!
I had no problems at all upgrading (from 1.1.0.14) to 1.2.
I have the feeling 1.2 is much more consistent in performance. No problems at
all using it. Even GSB works fine for me so far.

I personally think that people who are having trouble getting the new beta of
GSB to work should clean-up their registry (using regedit or some commercial
product): Search for GSB-entries and remove it (after deinstalling GSB the
proper way via Add/Remove Programs of course) and then install the new GSB.

I would love to update to 1.2 but when I do my video gets so jerky GPL
is unplayable, when I use the 1.1 gpl.exe it is fine again.

Glad to find its not just me - I was playing with 1.2 last night
(offline) and noticed extreme jerkiness at times - much worse than
anything I ever experienced with 1.1.0.3.

However at the time I was running with my PIII at stock 450Mhz -
restarting after bumping speed up to 550MHz (SoftFSB is great!) seemed
to cure the problems. May be that the new and improved new and improved
synch system has problems when available processing power is marginal.
