Joystick recommendations?

I need a new joystick and I'd appreciate some opinions. I have a couple of
helicopter sims  but I really want to play some driving/racing games with it
(e.g. GP2 and Need for Speed). I'd much prefer a USB
connection. I have shortlisted the following - MS Sidewinder Pro, Logitech
Wingman Extreme 3D and Saitek Cyborg 3D. The PC has an Athlon 600 processor
with 128Mb RAM running Windows 98.

Recommendations please ...

Thanks,

Peter

The Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro (USB) is one of the best
joysticks I've owned.

You can attach it to either a USB or game port. The Sidewinder
software allows you to assign functions to all of the keys, which
gives you 18 totally customisable buttons in all.

With a throttle control and HAT switch, you'd be nuts not to buy it,
especially at such a reasonable price.

Personally I would go with the Logitech.  I've owned a MS Sidewinder and used a
Logitech and found it to be alot more to my liking.  It felt smoother to me.
However I just bit the bullet and sold my MS joystick, got a cheapo one from
CompUSA for my flight sims and bought a NASCAR TM Sprint Wheel for my driving
sims.  Probably a mistake as the pedals arent great but the get the job done
allright.  I mean hey...if i can turn a 1:29.49 at Monza with them...they gotta
be ok :)

The only problem with the MS Sidewinder Precision Pro is that it doesn't
work with Dos games like GP2.

I could be wrong, but I think it DOES. I'll have to double check, but
I'm fairly sure I was using the MS Precision Pro in GP2 the last time
I played.

I originally bought a MS Precision Pro joystick for driving sims, but
had to take it back because it didn't have much throw (joystick
deflection) to it.  I changed it for the Cyborg 3D and have been happy
with that ever since.  Far more travel on the joystick meant that I
didn't have to be so precise with my inputs (Absolutely essential when
playing GPL).  Also I have noticed that being a digital stick it seems
to have outlasted my previous joystick purchases.  Previous sticks would
eventually have the pots wear out making them unusable.  Unfortunately
this stick does not allow a USB connection though.

Thanks for the opinions the Sidewinder Precision Pro sounds promising but
can anyone confirm whether it supports DOS??

Is it possible to play the split screen version of Need for Speed: High
Stakes with two joysticks on a Y-cable?  Otherwise, can a game adapter
(SB Live) joystick and a USB joystick be used simultaneously?

Thanks!
