Nascar Racing 2003 No CD patch

So can anyone tell me what the deal is with getting NASCAR 2003 to work
without the CD? I bought it this weekend ($9.00!) and want to set it up to
run without the CD.

I see there are dozens of fixed n2003.exe's that say the can run without the
CD, at least one official update, and something called a securom fix (which
looks like it came from Papy), but I can't make it all work together. Is
there a special order I need to install everything?

No matter what fixed exe I try to use, it comes up with a message on startup
that says I should try reinstalling the program.

Ah, replying to myself here. Never mind. I figured out the problem. It
doesn't like me having user permissions. If I runas the administrator it
works fine. Can anyone tell me if I can run it as a normal user if I give it
write perms to its own directory? Does it need anything else?

This is just one tiny reason I still use 98se.  I haven't a clue what to
do with admin permissions or stuff like that.  I haven't heard of anyone
complaining about this tho...so it 'should' work.
Even if you do get the no cd working, you still won't be able to race
online via Sierra.  You can race OFFline with the nocd and only online IF
you connect via an ip#.  But the nocd won't work on the official Sierra
servers.  There is a way to fool both windows and the Securerom Copy
protection, but that involves using a virtual cd program like Daemon tools,
AND a top notch cd copy program.  Search through RAS posts about this topic
on Google groups and you should find plenty of posts from Larry that
explain the procedure.

Thanks Dave. I did get the no cd working after I found out what the problem
was. I am familiar with mounting virtual CD roms and making a 1:1 copy of
the disk. If I ever decide online play is important, now I know what I have
to do. What's really impressive is the amount of add ons available from the
community. Incredible!

<snip>

YEPPER!!  I love it and I bought the game for $50 early last year.  I would
love to have paid $9 but the year worth of fun was well worth $40   :-)
