Thinking about buying a TSW2 Stock Wheel

Thinking about buying a TSW2 Stock Wheel

by Dave_ » Thu, 11 Apr 2002 07:54:35

I have been using a ThrustMaster T2 for years and was
wondering if upgrading to the TSW2 stock would be worth the money.  I
race in OSCAR Outlaw division 4.   I am looking at the TSW2 Stock
wheel then adding the ball bearing steering shaft, the single/Dual
adapter kit and the *** peddles.  All of this, along with the
extension cable and a couple of extra pots comes to $370.00 with
shipping.

What I am looking for is how much of a difference is there between
these 2 wheels? Will my lap times be more consistent? Will the car be
easier to control? Will it shave a tenth of my lap times?

Any help would be appreciated.

My TSW is almost 6 years old now. I paid $300 for it back then. Changed
pots 1 time last year!
You could make the investment now or later. Later will probably cost ya
more though.

I have a TSW2 with split axis option only.  Its fantastic, and tough enough
where I even let my kids use it to play games.  The only thing that has
happened is the shifter wire has broken due to how much use its seen in the
last year.  It was a 2 minute fix with how simple the design is.  Simple and
very effective design that keeps up with the use I put it through and the
abuse my two boys put it through.  Best 250 bucks I have spent on anything
relating to my computer.

Here's my review comparing the TSW2 stock wheel to the Thrustmaster
NASCAR Pro wheel -- not exactly a T2, but it should give you an idea
of how the TSW2 stacks up:

Hope this helps a bit!

I have owned a TSW2 for over 2 years now and I absolutely love it.  Like
you, I had the Thrustmaster wheel in the beginning.

When I first got the TSW2, it took some time to get used to ease of movement
it has.  At first my lap times were off a bit, but very soon I started
seeing the difference.  The best thing about the TSW2 is the weight of the
pedals.  You will never find yourself "pushing" the pedal base because it is
so heavy and stable.  I really strugged with the T-master whenever braking
was required, because the pedal unit would not remain stationary.

I just recently added the additional controller axis and *** pedal pads
to my setup.  Also, TSW offers a full-size 15 inch winston cup wheel.  I
purchased my full size Grant WC wheel from a 3rd party and replaced the
smaller stock wheel.  Having that full size wheel provides even better
precision and I highly recommend that modification.

How much trouble was it adapting the Grant wheel to the TSW?   I might be
interested in going that route instead of buying one of the overpriced
aftermarket wheels you get direct from TSW
thanks

2 bolts . Real easy, Lanny. Even I did it. The wheel that comes with the TSW
is unattached for shipping and installing a Grant is pretty much the same as
installing the supplied wheel.

Yep that's all it took for mine. Had this Gant on for about 4 years now!! It can
out of a dirt tracker here in Georgia :-)

Thinking about buying a TSW2 Stock Wheel

If you're more of an open-wheel fan, rather than a NASCAR fan, here's
another option for wheels:

http://members.iquest.net/~jbodin/tsw2mod.htm

The wheel came pre-drilled with three holes, so I made an adapter to
allow me to mate the wheel to the original 2-hole mounting on the
TSW2.  VERY nice!

;-)
