TSW2 replacement wheel....where to buy

by Lawman_027 » Mon, 30 Jun 2003 06:51:06

I am looking for a smaller, yet "F1 style" wheel for a TSW2. i put the
big 13" Grant wheel for NR2003, yet I find the big wheel to "bulky"
for F1C. I'd also like to avoid paying out the ass for one as well.
Ebay is an option, yet I don't know what brand or style to look for.
The original wheel (10"???) was a good size, but I'd like to find a
more racy looking wheel.

Logitech's MOMO wheels often die an early death, and Logi is useless as a
source of parts or service (except under warranty).  Looks great, too.  (As
an aside, MOMO pedals look fab on the TSW pedal stalks.)

TSW2 replacement wheel....where to buy

Go-Kart shops are good sources for replacement wheels for your TSW2 --
I got a very nice suede-and-leather Caliba kart wheel at Komet Karts
here in Indiana (owned by former IRL driver Mark Dismore).  If you'd
like to see pictures of my modified TSW2, check out this site:

There is some info on the site for alternate sources for the Caliba
wheels, but I'm sure there are other manufacturers out there as well.
If you have any in your vicinity, check your local karting shops to
see what they have.

A company named Grant makes custom and replacement wheels for
automobiles, and they also makes a Momo-type 10" wheel, but I've never
seen places like Pep Boys carry the small Grant wheels.  TSW used the
Grant wheel for a while as a low-cost alternative to a true Momo, but
I think they discontinued it for some reason (supply problems,
perhaps?).

As for using a go-kart wheel, most karting wheels come pre-drilled
with a three-hole pattern, and I wanted to retain the Caliba wheel's
three-hole mounting scheme without having to drill two more holes to
match up with my TSW wheel's mounting points, so I fabricated an
adapter out of aluminum stock, but you wouldn't have to get that
elaborate if you weren't a fanatic like me.

;-)

Hope this helps!
