I guess I was not the first one, but the experience of suddenly finding out
the FF patch was out was pretty great. Now, some 8 months later I can't
even think of racing GPL without FF.

I'll claim the honor. Most of the people who had access
to the 1.1 patch didn't have a FF wheel, and didn't
have any hope that FF would be worthwhile.
It was a lot like when I got my first pair
of corrective eyeglasses. There were
details that I'd never been able to see
before. FF was the same sort of experience,
sensing things that weren't present before.
Same as now :)
I had an ACT Labs Force RS setting around for
months, but had only used it briefly in CARTPR and
the Viper demo. GPL and N2 were my main sims, and
neither one supported FF (N2 doesn't even
recognize I-Force wheels).
Despite being a GPL online racing zealot, after
installing 1.1, I didn't run another online race
until it was released to the public. That was
more than a month, probably close to two months.
FF was worth a lot more to me than online racing :)
I let those responsible for 1.1 know at the time
that the FF was something special, and is nice
to have that confirmed by so many other people.
