Rally Championship: weird screen results

by Overlor » Tue, 12 Aug 1997 04:00:00

Hi all,

When i'm in the menu-system of Rally Championship, and i wait too long to
choose an item, i get these weird screen results.
At the start, there is a piece of movie running, and it stops to become the
background. But it looks like garbage on my machine, and i don't think
that's how they meant it.
Furthermore, when i'm in de game itself, i have no problems whatsoever.
(Aside from the fact that i keep slamming my car into a tree or another
car)
Also, when i'm in the menu to change my name and my country, the game bails
out to DOS with an 'Exception Error'. Very strange.
Can someone please help me with this?

Many thanks in advance.

I had some weird happenings with the demo, but the full version is
fine. One of the things it did was rapidly flash the menu boxes on
the setup screen.
I have a Jaton 58p, which is also ET6000 based. Although I have
4 meg, I don't think its a video memory problem.

I run it by restarting in MSDOS mode, not just shelling out.
Are you guys running it under Win95?

You are correct.  It is supposed to freeze the video to become the menu
background.  However, what you see are "tiles" of the freezed video and
none of the tiles line up to form a picture.

This happens to me, too.  I have a STB Lightspeed video card with the
ET-6000 chip set.  I don't know if the ET-6000 set is the problem, or the
fact that it has 2.25M of video memory.

Can't help with the fix.  Mine does it, too.

No, I always use "Restart in MSDOS mode".  I haven't even tried it under
Win95 so I can't say if it has the same problem or not.

All of the video freezes do the same thing.  They just get scrambled.
Doesn't bother me though, but if somebody has a fix I'll take it.  ;)

I have a ET6000 also and solved this problem by running UniVBE, er,
SciTech Display Doctor.

Its a VESA BIOS problem... doesn't bug me though.  In fact the game
might run slower (not too sure) with a VESA driver loaded.
