F1RS & monster 1

I have purcheased F1RS, and need to upgrade my 3D accelerator.

I am considering a Monster 1, and would appreciate yout input.
I don't want to cough up the higher prices for voodoo2 cards, and am
wondering how F1RS runs with the Monster 1.
My current card is a S3 virge 4 Mb.

Thanks

What CPU do you have?  On my 200MMX with Voodoo1, I'm satisfied with the
framerate of F1RS.  I have occasional first lap slowdowns that I attribute to
texture thrashing, and I often have the usual first turn slowdown due to
CPU/bus(?) overload with all the sounds/cars/etc.  I'm not sure how much a
voodoo2 would buy you if your CPU isn't much faster (or so common wisdom
goes).  Still, if I didn't have a Voodoo1, I'd pay the extra $80 or so and get
a Voodoo2 8MB (at least).  Though maybe you have access to a cheap used
Voodoo1...

I've got a Orchid Righteous I which is basically the same thing.  Runs
great with F1RS.  Fast frame greats and great 3dfx resolution.

If you can swing it, I agree, get a Voodoo 2.  The image quality is better,
and contrary to common wisdom, it IS faster on the same processor than a
Voodoo 1.  And some newer games will start to use some of it's features that
aren't on the Voodoo 1's.

It IS 10%-20% faster on a 200 mhz PC than a Voodoo 1, just it get's twice
that fast on a P2-300.  I think some thought pop this in a 200 and get
double the framerates vs. the Voodoo 1 and so are disappointed.  I wouldn't
really recommend buying one to replace a Voodoo 1 on a 166 or 200, not THAT
much better, but since you're starting from scratch I'd say get it.  And if
you do like me, and move from a K6-200 to a P2-400, the card goes with you
and does spectacularly on the new processor, whereas a Voodoo 1 wouldn't be
able to keep up with the new system - so if you think you might upgrade in 6
months that's another plus for the V2.

But, if you can get a good Voodoo 1 used for $50-75 or a new one for $100
and aren't upgrading for a while, it's a great addition - you'll love it!

It would be interesting to know what kind of CPU you use...if it is a
CPU up to 233mhz you should take the Voodoo I, above I would prefer
the Voodoo II.

Regarding your question: I'm running F1RS with a Monster 3D I, AMD K6
200 and 64 MB RAM and it really kicks ass ! <g>

Also, man mailt sich...

FYI, with 80MB EDOram and a PCI soundcard (AudioPCI) the first
lap slowdowns are gone.
