I tried changing the graphics settings from custom to high, and now it quits
to desktop after loading the track. I tried changing the settings back but
now its quitting every time. Any ideas?

re-run the 3dsetup, or just delete and reinstall

Try deleting your player file.  If you select high resolution car textures
and don't have a 128MB graphics card, it won't work until you do.
