Holden is who makes the original RWD Aussie version of the new Grand Prix.
They use the tried and true 5.7L engine. As a side note, they also still
build the El Camino. Its called a Ute i believe (looks nice too) and of
course is available with a 350.

More importantly, a template for NR03 for the road racing leagues. :-)

I wish they would have used a different name.  It doesn't stand for what the
GTO used to stand for.

Yeah, it has power.  Have to give it that.

But it's EXPENSIVE, which right away takes it out of the reach of the type
of person that would have bought a GTO.

It's also limited edition.

And, frankly, I don't like the body style.

I'd spend twice as much for a 10-point 1967 GTO survivor car long before I'd
buy one of these.

I used to buy & restore GTO's in my younger days as a Mechanic.  It's in my
***, and I'll be damned hard to please with anything built today,
especially something like this that does not capture the true essence of the
original in any way except power.

Yeah, she's a beauty :)

And they are finally getting rid of the old Fox platform they have been
using since, oh, 1979.

Except for the Eldorado ETC.  That is one fine looking set of wheels.  I've
come SO close to being able to afford to lease one, or a year old one, but
every damned time I get close they crank up the price and I can't get there.
DAMMIT!

1987 was the absolute last year I could tolerate anything from GM Car wise.
1988 was when they went to the corporate-platform and the "Bug-Eyed" look as
well as all front wheel drive.

I've had a ton of Pontiac's in my day.  A 65 Lemans, 65 GTO, 66 GTO and two
67 GTO's.  A 74 Grand Prix.  A 76 Grand Prix and an 81 Grand Prix.  Then on
to a 96 Firebird, which was traded in on a 350cid V8 87 GTA Trans Am (first
year of the return of the 350).

The GTA was the last one I owned.  To me, everything went to ***in 1988.
The 'Birds were ok until around 93 (?) I guess when they went to the new
roundy body style which I could not stand.

The 2000 and up Taurus is not a bad looking car.  I just traded one in
end-of-lease.  The 96 through 99 models were god-awful ugly.

I like flat.  I actually dislike the current-day 'aero' look of cars.
That's why the Cadillac Eldorado ETC is one of the last good-looking
American cars to me.  It still has hints of the past in it with it's broad
rear shoulders and flat-sides and long, low hood.

Back in the 70's, I worked on a car called a "Beaumont" once.  It was the
weirdest damned thing any of us had ever seen.

It was 1/2 Chevelle, and 1/2 Lemans.  The body of the Chevelle and the
interior of a Lemans!

We later learned it was brought over from Austrailia.

I recently saw another one on a Speed TV show called My Classic Car.  It was
the same weird car.  Kind of cool though :)  Beautiful shade of blue.

says...

Yep. Not coincidentally this was the year that GM killed the Buick Grand
National/T-Type and they haven't produced a good 4-seat musclecar since.
I bought a '98 Pontiac Formula which had serious power but two kids
later, I've had to move to a "family" car, which kills me, although I do
like my Chrysler 300M. The GTO looks like it might be a good solution
for my next vehicle although I would really love a BMW M3 -- 333
horsepower and unmatched handling in a sinister looking package like
that (I'll take mine in black please) just can't be beat. Of course I
don't know if my wife would go for the payment on a $50,000 car ;-)

I was going to mention that too :)

The Grand National was THE last true muscle car of it's kind.  The Eldorado
ETC comes close to the definition (thought the FWD would have to go), but
the GNX was hot shit man.
