First I'm getting excellent framerates for GPL in my p-133, 80 mb ram, Herc
Thriller 3d 8m pci, win 98, 3 hardrives system.

Now it seems that ICR2 rendition has gone haywire. All of a sudden, instead of
getting my usual 30 fps, I'n now getting, 40, 50 and even 60 fps!!!!!  That's
way too fast to even play the game!!! What's going on here???

If I remember correctly, the Rendition version of ICR2 allows you to turn
off the 30 FPS limit and run the game as fast as it will run, but the
physics get speeded up too.  This sounds like what you are describing.  I
think alt-x toggles it on/off.

is this a potential cheat to get faster times?

Not a chance in HELL!!!!
lol
The car is so uncontrollable that I kept crashing in evry turn. I would try to
brake but I would just wind up in the wall. At Mid-Ohio it took me 2:00.xxx
plus  with this.
I'm normally around 1:40.xxx I think.

Faster times in the real world, yes. If you manage to keep the car on
the track, that is. :) But not for "hall of fame" purposes. When ICR2
is zooming at 60fps, half a second real time will be one second
in-game time. The lap times you are recording will still be the same.
In order to cheat, the opposite ratio would be much more helpful (cf.
GP2 "slomo" cheat).
