How RASCAR started

by Tony Rickar » Sun, 16 Feb 2003 03:36:40

To clear up any confusion about RASCAR and how it started here is the history:

A group of racers from RAS started to organise ad hoc N2002 races coordinated by
John and using Eldred's server.

John then presented his ideas to create a schedule and a format for the racing
for RAS members.

John suggested a name "RAS Racing Collective".

Most of us thought the idea was good but the name was crap<G>

So ZZ Busch suggested "Rascararians"

Then Tony Rickard (er me) suggested "RASCAR" which was accepted by all as
absolutely brilliant and the name Rickard will be remembered for decades to come
as the founder of RASCAR, whilst Simmo and Eldred will be confusingly remembered
for demons and sainthood respectively.

So RASCAR was born.

A schedule of races for RAS members to get together. No league, no points, no
race registration (first come first served) just a "club night". The concept was
that any sim could be used. John agreed to run the N2002 schedule but doesn't
own the concept. If anyone else wants to organise some events for RAS using LFS,
GPL etc. then the model exists to do it.

Cheers
Tony (regretting not getting royalties for *that* name!)
