I've tried installing and running GTR, with no succes. I have received
significant input from several of you -Thanks all!
But I would like to know, has anybody managed to run it without window XP's
update?
Thanks

From what I have read, you need the service pak. But I'm not sure if
you need the service pak for the mod or just the pre-menu.
Refresh my feeble noggin...what is happening when you try and run it.
Have you read the pinned installation thread at the Simbin forums?

Good to know. Do you play the movie at the intro? And have you
updated to v1.2 of GTR? Thanks.
Also, another tip to the originl poster. Do you have large fonts enabled
on your desktop? Try using the default or small fonts.

I can't get it to start.. I get an "unexpected error: quitting". I made a
clear install of F1 2002, installed the nocd, ran it. Crashed my Minardi big
time in Spain. Then installed GTR02. Then ran GTRun to create the proper
.ini. Ain't running. Installed the patch; same result. Maybe if I tried it
with someone else's ini file?
I did look up the simbin threads, and I did find a similar cases, but the
guy never was able to run it. I use normal fonts. GTR better be good ....

I have done that, but it was as efficient in solving my problem as was the
1999 B.A.R..at winning races ...

The "unexpected error" comes from a wrong registration of the runtime
files comdlg32.ocx and/or comctl32.ocx which are used by the GTRMod
Launcher. They are supposed to be in the system folder, so when a
program needs a newer version of these files it overwrites them there.
So does the GTR installation.
Obviously another program you installed earlier did not place these
runtime files into the system folder and the GTR installation could
not update them. Now the registry points to the older files which
cause the unexpected error.
What you can do is to change the path in the registry pointing to
these runtime files to the system folder. Or, if you dont dare to
change the registry, do a search for these files on your harddisks and
replace all of them with the ones from the system folder.
This always helped.

This is because it has detected certain parameters.
If **someone** were to alter those parameters then SP1 can't detect them and
installs as per normal.
Is that what you are asking?
