>Out Run! :)

Magical Sound Showever forever!  As far as cheesy Sega music
goes, I'd have say that "Daytonaaaaaaaaaa!!!" still sticks in my mind
the most.  I remember going to an HMV in Hong Kong and seeing half an
aisle devoted to music from games.  The Sega Rally soundtrack CD sold
for ~US$30!

There were a couple of "techno" tracks on the original NFS
that I liked.  The theme to Test Drive 2 is also unforgettable.  I
still get confused by World Circuit/Grand Prix's Fleetwood Mac ripoff
tune.  Does GTA 1/2/3 count as "car-games"?  :-)

Still, my pick for best music overall would have to go to a
series of sims I didn't even particularly like: Whoever did the music
for Magnetic Fields' series of rally games (RAC/IRC/RC2000) really
knew how to incorporate current (at the time of each game's release)
electronic music trends into the soundtrack.

What about the music in "Stunts"? That's one I haven't forgotten in all these
years (while I don't remember any of the others you mention).

>You can always argue about music in car-games, but sometimes its great.

>Ok, these games gets my vote: (In no particular order really)

>1. Need For Speed : Porsche Unleashed.
>These music sets you in the mood to go faster down cot da'zur (spelling?).
>Brilliant mix of electronic music, with some samples you recognise from
>Elektric Music etc.

>2. Ridge Racer 4 : Offers lots of "Acid jazz techno". Especially track 3+6
>is one of my favourites.
>Not to mention the catchy main-tune "he is ridge racer" ;)

>3. Rage Racer : Namco always had great music (until Ridge Racer 5, which
>lacked in the audio-department)

>4. F1 2001 : Only offers menu-music, but well written pieces from Chicane.
>It made me spend more time
>in the menus, then on the racetrack ;D (I copied the music into F1 2002
>also, since F1 2002 didnt have as good)

>5. Need for speed 4 : There is one song that stands out more then the
>others, "Quantum Singularity". Listen
>to the low frequency bass!. Omg!, brilliant track.

>6. Ridge Racer 1 : yes.. some brilliant masterpieces.

>7. West Racing : I hope to put you here ;)

>music i cant stand :

>Sega Rally 1 + 2, Super GT, etc. (Dont know why, but i always found it
>sounds.. like bad rock music.. and i dont
>like rock music)

Finally, someone mentions it!  This music has been drilled into my brain for a
couple years now.  :)

It depends what type of music you like. For me, GT3 has some quality tracks
(and some pants ones, but you can select which ones you like in the options
menu). Feeder, Ash and Muse - quality. Especially Muse.

But still, even GT3 can't compete with the ultimate... Lotus Esprit Turbo
Challenge on the Amiga. What a fantastic game, with quality music tracks and
fantastic driver names (if you played it you'll know what I mean). It is the
only recorded instance of fake names designed to sound like real race
drivers (audonyms?) that were not annoying, and sometimes even bordering on
the funny. Compare to stuff like David Beckham's Soccer, with Cambel and
Owin...

BTW, it only sounded good on an Amiga, something to do with the amazing
hardware that you just can't replicate on a PC, either by conversion or
emulation.
