I like to support endevours like this as its good for the hobby in
general. I'm curious as to the general concensus here regarding this
site and its setup. I'm just about to start racing Nascar 2003 again
after a couple years hiatus and hope I can find a league of moldie
oldies to race with that won't miind my lack of skill. I also wouldn't
mind running some GPL again but don't see that mentioned on
onlineracin.com..Thing I never liked about "pickup-races" in the old
VROC days was the general lack of civility in a lot of them. People
running F1s in an F3 race, etc. etc. etc... I'm hoping the small
charge this site requires will help keep out the "Quake-racers"...

Any thoughts, good OR bad?

Thanks

In my experience GPL online races have settled down some time ago and are
largely a core of very courteous drivers whose main interest is having a
fun close race rather than prove to everyone how much faster they are. I
guess it goes with the age of the product and the intolerent and the
wreckers move on...

It certainly is quiet (VROC & Igor), however, dropping in for a casual race
every once a week or so has proved very rewarding with some quality racing.
Most of those (few) still racing GPL are a darned fine bunch :)

Pick-up racing is pickup racing, whether on OLR, Sierra, or any other
venue. I like to think the pickups at OLR are higher quality than
most, but I rarely race pickups.  OLR's league structure is second to
none IMO, therefore I race OLR only :)

Icer,

Eventually something will happen, either papy's free stuff goes away, or
the next best sim will come along.  OLR is nice for 2 of the 3 aspects of
online racing.  pickup racing?  Naw, really there is (not yet) the volume
you will see via papy.  League, and leage administration  Awesome!  (tools
to host a leage) or running in the fine leagues they offer, so many
different levels to choose from.

Since it is all custom, they also have cheat detection software, and the
service itself can lag behind in the "latest" tracks, & mods selections
which to me is overall doesnt matter, OK YMMV, I dont care to run Drag Strip
anywho.

however for good or bad, the one thing I dont like is the difficulty in
pickup racing hosting.  Dont get me wrong, least a dialup user can host a
20+ car field race this way, because you have at your disposal, dedicated
servers that actually run the races.  Unlike Using Papy where it depends on
your connection or if you have your own (or rented) server on a OC3-8
(better than t1 lines) or not....   but unlike at papy it is more or less
impossible to set a fixed race with your own setup, (FLM Trucks for example,
have friggin awsome setups for fixed setup racing IMHO) plus a few other
sources.   So via Papy, we have had some very awesome races using tweaked
setups, instead of the fast or Expert sets you know.  That is unfortuantley
because of how they (OLR) implemented the front end launcher/joiner.

Over all, I would rate OLR a 9 but sometimes, a 7 on "easy or intuitive
interface" maybe, but all in all really good.

your milage will vary, depending on your attitude to racing with other
people.  Papy has like 300-500 servers but to me except for PW'd leagues,
only about 4 servers that arent controlled by Dink ass clowns, IMHO.  OLR
least is mostly guys who are serious enough that they pay to use it...

for what it is worth.

I joined as a "Basic" user. What i'm trying to find now is a
"beginners" type league that isn't full of fanatics, just guys
(preferably older) that want to have fun racing.. Sheesh, looked at
the "Senior's League" and they want a friggin resume.. Wanted to post
in the Forum and I find posting is Blocked for me (Basic)??  Now
THAT'S bull***if its true, have to dig a bit deeper. The main forum
should be open for ALL paying members. I also would have hoped there
was a "Getting Started" FAQ for guys like me (Nascar newbies) but
can't find one..
