Wondered if anyone thought that this newsgroup is getting very popular and
we might want to split it between some of the software packages?

Not me. I like all driving sims, and I'd rather have them all in one
spot instead of hunting across 4 or 5 newsgroups.
Compared to some newgroups, the 100 or so messages here a day is very
managable.

Popular ?? Not really...

I don't see the 200+ message a day that it had years ago.

There is no point of _even_ thinking splitting this newsgroup.  Oh and btw..
it would never get even passed the RFD on news.groups.  There is no point of
doing that, seriously. There is many other newsgroup who would diserve a
chance to split than here.

With the FAQ system me and Michael E. Carver are making in place, I don't
see why we should split.  I would say r.a.s. is even pretty calm... well if
you take Bruce off the picture ;-P

Well, if anybody wants to make a rec.autos.simulators.powerf1 ,  I think Im
gonna go puke now ;-)

No way. Leave it as it is. I want to read about all racing sims, even the
ones I don't have.

close to 1,000 everyday!
If anything, it would be nice to have an F1RS group.

Big time! I agree completely with Tim. A hundred or so posts a day is nothing,
and having them all in one place is like one-stop shopping <ggg.>
    All the best, Mike

I think we should leave well enough alone.  I for one like having all the
games in one place.

Well, I do think it's a good idea to split the newsgroup for learning
purposes for editing so theres no knowledge and creativity for editing
pages, but it really aint worth it like you said ymenard the group doesn't
have enought massages daily.

Mark F.

P.S> I do know how to make my own newsgroup server and newsgroups and can do
it once i finally get my cable vision internet line hooked up

If those people who want to split the group want to avoid posts on a
particular software package, why don't you get a newsreader with
filters and just filter out those messages you don't want to read?

I prefer getting all my 'sim' info at one place.
If this group is split we are going to get a lot of cross-posting.
If someone wants to know about the best graphic card or wheel for his
sim, we are going to get that post in all the split groups.

Well, I aint sure about software packages splitting because this newsgroup
doesn't get really that much messages daily, but I would consider making a
newsgroup for just editing so we can bring some cool stuff into the sim
games we love so much.
Mark F.

P.S> I do have software on how to start my own newsgroups and have done it
in a private newsgroup server, but it aint on 24 hours a day or even 7hours
day. but i will look at this seriously when i get my server started.

It's not a good idea. It wasn't one in the past, and it isn't one
right now. I'm surprised you're bringing it up right now - I would
have expected the next round when GPL hits the shelves.

For all arguments imaginable concerning this question, consult
dejanews (using the complete database!) We had this discussion
whenever a new sim came out.

This group doesn't have half (probably less, much less) of the traffic that
flight sims has, and that group manages fine.  A split would overly
complicate and confuse things for no good reason.  There is always a great
deal of traffic when a new, *good* sim is released that drops to very
manageable levels after a time.  IMO a split of this group at this time is
neither desireable nor warranted.
