Online racing question part II....

by Andrew Turne » Sat, 15 Apr 2000 04:00:00

OK, it looks like I'm sold on Papyrus' stuff. Thanks for the input...

I'll preface this by saying I've run a whole bunch of different racers
on PC, Playstation and N64.
I'm new to online though (haven't even done it yet).

A couple more general questions referring to both Nascar 3 and GPL
(newbie- very, very newbie):

1) Is it generally easy to get into an online race? How is it done? Are
there special websites or people who host a lot of races?

2) Are there some people who get online just to smash you out of a race?
(hoping not)
The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking for fun, but I'm pretty
serious about doing it right.

3) I have a cable modem.... I assume this will help, but, well, you
know.. never assume, right?

4) Are there races hosted with "easier" settings (such as higher crash
resistance) for new racers?

5) Is there any way to create tracks for either sim?

Well, I have a lot more questions but I don't want to try your patience
too much. Thanks for your help-
I've found newsgroups to be great places to find the information I'm
looking for from the people directly
involved.

Cheers!

Hi Andrew and welcome to online racing.

I know nothing about N3; others will help you I'm sure.

To answer your questions about GPL:

1) Visit http://vroc.net/ ; you will find all your answers to get online.
2) Unfortunatally, you'll find some once in a while.  After you feel
confortable about holding your line and race safely, I would suggest you
join a league.
3) Your cable modem will not only allow to join races with a great
connection, you'll also be able to host races, providing you have the
hardware to support it.
4) Some races are posted has "For newbies".  Generally, in short or inter
races, a "shift-R" is allowed to get you back into a race after a crash. In
Pro and Grand Prix, that's it...your dead =:-D
5) There is a converter out that allows you to use GPL with tracks from ICR,
N2, N/ and N Legends.

You'll find all this information, again, here http://vroc.net/

See you on VROC.
