F1 2002 framerate?

by David Mocna » Thu, 10 Oct 2002 00:38:35

Something odd is happening ... it seems that I don't know how to switch OFF
the anti-alliasing. The 3DConfig program is saying that it is OFF and I also
made sure that FAA  in the config.ini file is set to 0 (zero), but I still
have AA enabled in game?! I trying changing it in the 3DConfig between
'disabled' and 2x and that makes no difference in game. I also tried
changing it in the config.ini between 0 and 2 and that makes no difference
as well.

Has anyone else experienced this? Between this and the cars changing the 3D
models with distance I am getting annoyed with the setting up of things as
it seems to do what it wants anyway :-(

That motherboard uses the AMD / Via chipset.  The AMD Northbridge
controls the AGP.  You thus need to make sure you have the correct AGP
driver installed.

You can get the drivers from the Gigabyte page:

http://tw.giga-byte.com/support/d_amd.htm#amd750_760

The "AMD 750 / 760 series chipset (North Bridge) driver" is the
important one in this context.

Note: if you have WinXP, the driver should already be installed by
default and this thread has turned into a red herring.......

You need to check the anti-aliasing values in the control panel for
your video card.

I don't have an Nvidia card, so can't tell you the full details, but
right click on your desktop, choose properties and start digging.....

F1 2002 framerate?

Well, this is just a guess based on the file name, but it sounds like you
have a Hybrid.  Just like the excellent ABIT KG7, your board _appears_ to
have the AMD 761 Northbridge and the VIA 686b South Bridge.

I think :)

This means you will need AGP Drivers from AMD's site, and South-Bridge (Inf,
USB, etc...) drivers from VIA's site.

I'd just use what Gigabyte tells you to use if you don't have a firm handle
on this.

Not exactly...

AMD has released updated North-Bridge (AGP) drivers since XP was released...

Not that they are mandatory, but the _are_ there.

Yes, if it's an nvidia card, the 'overall' control is in the advanced
section of the Display Properties.  It's part of the nvidia properties tab
(advanced options).

You can set a value, force them off, or allow each app to control the
settings.  If you really want AA gone, select always disable.

F1 2002 framerate?

aaaah, OK ... I see. I did not realise that this 'overrides the FAA, I just
though that this is the 'default' and F1 2002 setting will take precedence.
Is there a way I can set the FAA for each game as I do want the 2x FAA for
GPL (where it looks great and still gives me full frame-rate) but I do not
know any other way to set it for GPL.

I'll try it and see what my framerate is without the 2x FAA set in the
Windows display settings.

Yes.  Set it to the setting that allows the games to choose.  It will be
obvious when you get to the FSAA option page in the driver.

F1 2002 framerate?

by J » Fri, 11 Oct 2002 13:47:14

Somethings seems wrong.
My XP1600 with an GF2 GTS runs F12002 at always >35 with mirrors on, almost all
eye candy on and at 1100 x 1000 (duno the exact figure ITM).

Check your system and probably install some fresher drivers.

Or is that GF4 MX really *that* bad?
