Some of these posts, these "what's the best... what is your..." just plain
have me rolling on the floor.
Is it just that the poster has nothing interesting to add or is it that the
poster simply likes starting a thread that may have many followers?

But choosing 67 in the first place was very wise because of the change
in motor racing paradigm.

Lighten up Alan. There was conversation this morning that Dave Kaemmer may be
working behind the scenes on GPL2 on his own time. That's the first thing I've
heard that sounded positive.
FWIW Here's what I would like to see:
* Weather - I remember seeing adjustable weather effects in the early GPL
screenshots.
* Downforce - Talk of 1972-73 winged cars would address this.
* Better graphics - Increased poly count for cars and***pit views. I'd like
to see better than NR2002.
* Improved Damage - Not just visual, but internal as well
* Improved Sound - Dolby 5.1 Surround and a higher sampling rate (correct me if
I'm wrong) would increase clarity
* Integrated multiplayer with record keeping ala NR2002.
* Mod'ability - our community has proven that it can step up to the plate and
create some top notch add-ons.
* Built in support for the GPL Shifter.
* Improved collision detection.
What else?

or the ONnline prediction factor be more like OFFline, so taps wouldnt
send a car into orbit...
but i like the 67 cars. and improved damage graphics and tire modeling
and brake wear and weather, would be fine without getting away from
the original reason for GPL'67 that being the last year before they
became airplanes~

My dream is that you once realise the nature of Usenet, the sociological
aspect of it and the nostalgia often associated to it's nature.

However this story of DK working on a sequel is bull. Dave is the genius
behind the physics models, he would not start with a "year" like 1972. He
builds the model then would go from there. Pointing to the fact that he had
picked a year discredits the claim IMO.
I'd like to see it based on an era that I can relate to - I wasn't born in
the '60s! Something like 1989 would do nicely! ; )
Not necessarily Conga. Because of the huge changes in F1 over the years,
you can't just create a model and plug in the correct numbers. There were
Turbos, non-turbos, ground effects, electronic suspensions... IF you are
going to design a historic F1 sim, then right off you had better pick an era
so you can limit your workload. Otherwise you'll be stuck coding High wings
and low wings and no wings and flat bottoms and GE bottoms etc etc.
Personally I've started pestering the F1 2002 modders for a High Winged
Can Am mod...maybe somebody can send DK the Cutout poster of the Chapparal
2E...

Considering he's not even a member of Papyrus anymore (except as an advisor
for NR2003), I doubt it even more.
Again, it's a ghost house at Papyrus, they have downsized incredibly
(relocating to small office per example).... :(

I think i posted this before, but...
Technology wise, I'd like to see the upcoming N2003 model which
apparently features debris and high frequency bump modelling. In
addition, I'd want a better brake model (temperature/wear). Also, I'd
want the option of DNQ's and the 107% rule.
Time period wise, there are so many years I'd love. 1958, with the
introduction of the rear engined Cooper. 1967 redone with more
detail. 1968 with the primitive wing cars. 1988 with the great
Senna/Prost battle and the last of the turbos plus a few normally
aspirated cars. 1980ish (1979-1982) just so we'd have a game with
Jacques Villeneuve in it, even if the turbo Ferrari had the worst lag
of any F1 car.
My favorite by far, however, is 1976. Witness:
