are unroutable. there's one more, reserved for testing or somesuch.
all this means is that you should use one of the above mentioned
IP-ranges if your computers don't have official IP-adresses
(i.e. they're offline, or your doing masquerading/NATing).
either you're doing something wrong, or the game is broken.
check http://www.csl.sony.co.jp/cgi-bin/hyperrfc?rfc1918.txt for the
full standard.
IPX has nothing to do with this.

I think that's obvious.
I'm aware that IPX has nothing to do with the game itself. But, he
thought that if each computer could see each other, then the game
would automatically work. So, in this case, IPX does have something
to do with this.

I assume my LAN is working ok, cos, *all* my other games (including,
TOCA2, GPL, GP3,Super 1 karting, Wargasm, etc, etc, all work fine on it,
and I don't have to manually enter any ip address, it just works!)

Aha, maybe we are getting somewhere now. Ages ago I read an article
about people (hackers, spammers, etc) getting info on your pc while it
is connected to the net.
The article mentioned the "Shields up" website, and advised how you
could disable the open ports (which are left open by windoze by
default usually) on your pc, this involved disabling most tcp stuff, or
at least removing the link from IPX & TCP network stuff (I can't
remember exactly how though, sorry!)
ISTR removing or disabling options from the start, settings, control
panel, network section. I then went to the "Shields up" site to check
how secure my pc was (it was much more secure after closing these
ports).
So, maybe I need tcp stuff to be re-installed for sbk2001 to work? What
settings do you have installed under control panel, networks stuff?
Does this mean sbk2001 is only designed to be networked vai the
internet, or is LAN (IPX) plan possible too?

"7. Network
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The game supports TCP/IP LAN & Internet connection only."
You can't use IPX, Netbios, NetBEUI, or anything else *except* TCP/IP. It
sounds like you've closed down your systems to incoming connections. To ping
the other system, click Start, Run. Type in
command
then hit <enter>. From the command prompt, type:
ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Where the x's represent the other system's IP address. If it says destination
unreachable, that's the problem. You'll need to open up some of what you
closed, or re-install TCP/IP. If the ping works, it will give numbers for the
delay between systems.
