Late Model/Sprint Car Sim?

According to www.whra.com there is some info regarding a Late Model/Sprint
Car racing game to be released by the makers of Powerslide in November 99.
Does anyone know anything about this?  This is the first I have heard of it.

Dude. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Here is a better link you
may not have seen. Hopefully some of the road race people in this group will
take a look at this.... I think this is going to be a huge game...

Dirt Track Racer. You start driving a piece of ***in a low division and
you win cash to buy new cars and move up. The graphics look great... AND it
has figure eight racing... What more could a normal human ask for...
I can't wait....
BARTENDER... a can of Foster's for the Bruce's from Ratbag....

Pure simulation and Figure 8 tracks are not synonyms in my book... It's
probably just a revised version of Powerslide. But I must admit, I'm
still intrigued.

Why is that?

Hopefully they won't succumb to the dark side and make it yet another arcade
racer.  If this turns out to be a *** sim I will be in absolute heaven.

Since when is Figure 8 racing not a major motorsport?  They happen at tons of
short tracks across the country every weekend.  Hell, Louisville Motor Speedway
up here has Figure 8 races for three or four divisions each Friday night.  I'd
actually like to try out the Figure 8 scene without wasting thousands of
dollars on a car that I'm most likely gonna thrash on the racetrack.

Also, from my understanding, they're using a better game engine for this sim.

I think you are confused (or maybe I am): the Figure 8 track they're
talking about is one track which has a double loop, an intersection
(with no overpass at the intersection). Louisville has a figure 8
section, but I don't think it's used for series like the Craftsman
Trucks (except for pitting). That means that cars can hit each other.
Maybe this is a demolition derby but it sure ain't a track from the DIRT
series or World of Outlaws. And armor plating on cars? Please... Sounds
like a another Demolition Derby game. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me.

I think the track was described as a standard figure eight track. I
even think a picture is shown on one of the site's showing the "X". Figure
eight racing is about as serious as a heart attack, and would be a hell of
alot more fun with 12 (just a number that I pulled from my ass) other people
online than racing out in the German woods in over-powered go-carts (against
what 3 to 6?).
As far as the armor plating thing is concerned... Well here where I
am.. and in Florida where I'm not.. Many tracks that run figure eight races
require boiler plate to be welded in-between the driver and passenger side
roll bars. As well as above and below the driver's seat. Sounds like armor
plating.... But it just may have been how the description came off to
someone who had no clue in the world as to what the game was trying to
present.
The DIRT racing in the Northeast is mostly made up of cars that would be the
heart and soul of the game. It sounds like the game starts with Street Stock
cars, and you progress until you have enough clout or cash to move up....
Just like the real world. With the Late Models or the Sprints being the top
rung of the ladder, with an engine based on the Powerslide engine, but
tweaked for more realistic simulation.... Well.. Like I said... give the
guys in the land down under credit... I'm buying Powerslide again to help
support them....
But who cares....
Thank you for your time....

Well I'm sure that Craftsman Trucks, DIRT and WOO don't use the
figure eight portions of the tracks they race at even when they have
one.  However there are many tracks that have a figure eight
configuration and do use it.  I don't know if those series are the
types you'd travel to a neighboring track to compete in or just run at
your local track for a trophy & a kiss from a pretty gal.  But they do
exist and are raced on.  Not too long ago someone posted a link either
in here or on a mailing list, don't remember which, of Figure 8 School
Bus Racing.  I even remember seeing, I think on TNN, Figure eight
train racing (3 cars chained together with one driver in front car and
one brake man in last vehicle).  Trust me.  If you can do it in a car,
It's being done.

Terrance and Philipp,
Youre right, its not part of any major dirt
racing series and it wont be included in any
major series in our game either. The figure 8
section of the game is not the heart of the game,
our focus is on the simulation of oval dirt
racing and it always will be, one day we found
some reference to it on the internet and thought
it sounded like a fun thing to put in, the idea
of smashing into the back markers at a cross
section instead of lapping them sounded great,
and through multiplayer testing its hard not to
burst out laughing when you see two cars in head
of you pile into each other! (although I think in
reality the two guys in the crash wouldnt be
laughing much :)However as I said before, we
arent making a demolision derby style game but
there is racing like this in real life and we're
putting it in just for fun. Theyre an amusing
side track for people that may have an extra car
to risk getting trashed at the intersection or
for people who just want to have a single race on
a figure 8 track.
I hope you all like the full game when it comes
out, please keep posting stuff like this, we do
read it and take great consideration of what you
say.
