Problems with graphics in Le Mans demo

by Jame » Mon, 20 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Unlike many others I have read about in Sim Racing News with installation I
have had a different problem.

I got the demo with the latest PCGamer (April 2000 UK Edition).  Upon
running the game for the first time I thought I would change the video
settings to full settings as I thought my P733 with Diamond Viper D770 card
could handle it.  When I ran the demo though I got a bit of a surprise.  The
demo runs in a dusk setting, but I couldn't see my car or the track or any
othe other cars.  The only thing I could see was the rear lights and sparks
from other cars.  I figured out what was going on when the zoom in feature
to each car happened at the beginning of the demo (when Tiff Needell
annoyingly describes each car on the grid).  The cars were only visible as
basic polygons and were pretty much see through.

I suspected the video settings and turned everything off (bump mapping,
etc.) and reduced to 640x480x16.  This didn't cure anything.

Anyone encountered similar problems?  If so, got any cures?  I'm glad I
didn't buy the game as I have been tempted (something to play whilst waiting
for F12000 and GP3 to appear).

James :(

Even stranger is that PCZone had a running demo (no interaction) of Le Mans
on their CD and it runs fine.
