weeks and I just found out that there is no warning light when over-revving.
It's not a big deal, but it would be nice if this is fixed in the first patch.
Am I the only one who noticed this, because I never read this on this
newsgroup.

It's not a warning light, it's a warning sound. The sound of your motor
venting. Then the RPMs go out. All too common in ICR2.
Real racecars have rev limiters, but not in this GAME.

What Doug Reichley was talking about was the red light on the dashboard
that's supposed to turn on to warn you when something bad is happening to
the car (ie. low on fuel, engine too hot, over reving, etc). According
to the manual one of it's functions it to go no when you are over reving
the engine. It does not. It does how ever go on when you are low on
fuel.

Harald,
You are definitely not the first to notice it and it definitely IS a
big deal when the manual says something and the game does something
else.
Craig.

The over rev light fix is already in the patch being put together by Papy and
due out in a couple weeks.

(page 7) "Master Warning Light - Blinking indicates high water
temperature, low fuel or over-revving"
(page 84) "... you'll want the engine light to just barely flicker at
the end of the ..."
(page 84) "If the engine warning light blinks excessively, lengthen
the gear ratios".
It is a bug and hopefully will be rectified in V 1.1.

Let's be realistic about it. The overrev light is only useful when in
5th or 6th gear when on OVALS ONLY. Ok, if you get technical, it might
be used on a road course, IF it has a long straight, such as Toronto.
Here's why. The revs are coming up so fast when accelerating through the
gears that by the time you even think about seeing the light, the SOUND
of your engine venting is likely to happen first. You just can NOT
overrev this game as it pops the motor quicker than Uncle Sam takes taxes
out of your check.
Let's say that the overrev light is programmed to come on at 14,300rpm.
The motor is programmed to pop at 14,800rpm. When accelerating through
the gears, this 500rpm difference is quicker to happen than the light
coming on. Therefore, if you 'see' the light, it's too late.
I'd MUCH rather see a rev LIMITER feature, possibly that could be turned
off for the poor souls that think racing motors are a dime a dozen and
like the sound of a piston blasting through a cylinder wall.
A rev limiter would be mucho realistic as EVERY Indycar has them,
including the lowest teams (that can't afford motors anyway).
FWIW, it's very frustrating to be jamming through the gears, hit the
shift button at 14,000rpm and have the program 'miss' the button or, more
likely, the joystick button malfunctions and POP there goes the motor
only 5 laps from the end of the race. A rev limiter would prevent this.
Doug,
No dispute from me concerning your logical and well presented
arguments.
My post was really aimed at Papryus for saying one thing and doing
another; despite the 16 names listed in the manual for quality
assurance!
Cheers,
Craig.
