Well now we know Sierra has the Daytona track. If you watched the
Daytona 500 pre-race show, they showed Jeff gordon racing on it at
the Daytona USA center. It looks very promising. Now if Sega will just
give up their liscense<sp>Sierra could have the track out in no time.

Sega just recently extended their exclusive rights to Daytona for a few
more years.  It's doubtful Papyrus will get a chance to use the track
anytime soon.

How is it that The Daytona Speedway, can use Nascar 1 as a simulator,
use their Daytona Track at their exhibit hall, and continue to sell
the rights to SEGA?  Isn't that a conflict of interest?

That version was never created for distribution, so you really don't
have a conflict of interest.

Nod, I remember reading in here some time ago, Papyrus said that the
Daytona Track at "Daytona USA" was developed for the Daytona
Attraction only and that there where no plans to do anything else with
it.

A bummer... we'll see Daytona one of these days :)

As if this hasn't been answered a hundred times before here we go again.
Papyrus was asked to make Daytona for Daytona USA and for that reason only.
We won't see Daytona for a while because Sega has renewed their "exclusive
rights" liscence agreement with Daytona.

They had these simulators last year when they opened the museum. And of
course, all the Papyrus fans fussed that since Papyrus made the Daytona
track for them, why couldn't we get a copy.  It was a special situation.
I've read lately that Sega has the rights for a few more years.
WHY?  They use the name loosely in their game since Sega Daytona looks
nothing like the real track.  How many of you saw the mountain in Turn
One?  How about the*** plants?

Was at Daytona USA first week of January 97 during vacation.  Played the
simulator, looked liked Daytona to me, worked liked NASCAR 1.  Seems that
there was some discussion on this newsgroup when Daytona USA first
opened, that it looks and runs like NASCAR 1 but it was not really
compatible.  Of course, this could all be BS.  BTW, saw the Chevy
team practicing when I was there, had a ball.

It's N1, I drove it.  Papyrus says its not compatable with N1 but its
definitely not N2.  It is the Daytona track.

Guess the idiots over at SEGA were smoking something strong when they
made their visit to South Florida.

Maybe they're plans on making a slot machine at the top of the track in
the back strech of the Daytona speedway :)       Thanks a lot,
