Playing N2002 on a laptop?

by RocketMa » Fri, 07 Feb 2003 13:53:31

I am investigating purchasing a laptop for business/personal purposes, and
was wondering whether it would be possibly to play N2002 (and GPL, of
course!) via the machine.
The system I am currently leaning toward purchasing is a Toshiba Satellite
2430. The system specs are :-  Pentium 4 2.4Ghz (NOT mobile), 512 MB DDR, 40
GB HD (4200rpm), 400 mhz mainboard, Intel 845PE chipset, NVIDIA GeForce4 420
Go graphics controller, 4 x USB 2.0, 1 x IEEE 1394 (Firewire).
Would I be able to get a reasonable frame rate (60 fps?) playing the
Papyrus games? Should it be reasonably 'future-proof' for later games? I am
assuming that the Geforce4 420 graphics controller is similar
performance-wise to the Geforce4 MX420 graphics card. Is that correct?
I would be plugging my force feedback wheel (Microsoft) into a USB port,
and using either a 17 or 19 inch CRT screen to view the games.
Does anyone have experience with a similar configuration playing car
racing sims? What about flight simulators? or FPS?
  Any comments/help most welcome.
  TIA.

The biggest problem you will have is on the drivers side. Toshiba NEVER
updates it's drivers, they are still using Detonator on the 1x. or 2x.,
can't remember exactly with one. Go here to get new INF files to be able to
use NVIDIA drivers.

If you wanna see what kind of problems there are with Toshiba (and most of
the notebook are the same), go here:

You need to register to be able to enter but it is free.

Nice playing,
