Seriously, why *isn't* there a rec.autos.simulators.gpl ?? I think that the
interest level would certainly be high enough to warrant it - does anyone
know if there are plans afoot to do this? I've no idea how easy/difficult it
is to start a newsgroup from scratch.

1) It would never, ever be approved for voting.
2) It has been attempted about 4-5years ago to split this newsgroup and it
did not work.
3) The  rec.* hierarchy is very tight on new newsgroups.
4) It takes about half a year to create on in this hierarchy.
5) There is no need for this, the newsgroup is very small in msg/day
compared to others.  Some of them have 1000+ post per day yet they don't
split.
6) Some people just like to whine.
7) Create one in the alt.games.* hierarchy and have fun with the only
messages being spam lol ;)

It's just pointless, this thread comes back each 2-3month by people who
simply misthink of the r.a.s. community.  They won't change a dime about
things happening here.

There is a group called gpl.discussion on the news.simracing.org news
server.

There's already alt.games.gplegends. No spam either. Completely empty. I don't
know whether or not it's available everywhere or just my news server
(Earthlink) though. And of course there's also gpl.discussion at Jacob's
server. Not much traffic though. Most GPL fans just congregate here for some
reason.

IMO there's no such thing as a GPL fan, only a sim racing fan. Whatever
gives the best simulation ride on a PC will always be "King" here. This
time next year it could be the GP3 or the Nascar3, or even the ICR3
newsgroup (heh, a man can dream ;-).

Well, you're opinion has just been blown out of the water, Andrew.
I am a _GPL_ fan.  There is nothing else in the "sim racing" category at
this time that interests me.

No, you proved my point, you just don't realise it yet :-)

Andrew McP... permanent sim racing fan, current GPL fan, was an ICR2/1
fan, hoping to be a fan of something better than GPL at some point in the
future, but not holding his breath <g>

Yep.  I have a friend in Wales who runs GP2 in preference to GPL (only
because he has difficulty mastering GPL) and he downloaded some new circuits
then had all sorts of problems installing them.  So I threw GP2 onto the
system and had a bit of fun whilst helping him out with some info.
It's easy to see why it was so popular and has enjoyed such a long life but
cripes the graphics are dated now!

I thought it had been a while since we last heard this little
suggestion? When do you reckon it will crop up again? 3 months? 4? 6?

But he doesn't show there any more after Davor nicked the podium from him
over at Bruce's league...
