Microprose GP2 Bug - or Not???

by John Seymou » Tue, 22 Jul 1997 04:00:00

My machine is configured with a 4MB Millennium, Adaptec 2940, 3.2G Quantum
Fireball, 1G Seagate 51080N, Panasonic PD drive, 133 processor, Win95
OSR2.The 2940 and Millennium have the most recent (released/non-beta)
drivers. The Millennium also has a up-to-date BIOS. Both HDDs are formatted
FAT32. There are no IDE drives, and I've disabled the IDE controller and
all power management features in the motherboard BIOS setup.

The problem:

When I run F1-GP2, it fails (crashes) 9 out of 10 times when trying to
write a hot lap to disk. I.e. Escape out of a practice session (whilst
driving) and try to save a hot lap. Name the lap, and as it saves I get
what looks like a brief program stack dump in the lower 1/3 of the screen
and the game exits to DOS.

This occurs either with the game run from DOS (reboot to DOS), or a Win95
DOS session. This is not a bug I've heard about before so I'm not sure it's
the game itself being buggy.

Can/does anyone reproduce this/know of a fix??

Sorry John, I can't help you.  I can tell you that your machine is
almost identical to mine (except for the PD drive and the Seagate...my
second HD is a Conner) and I can save Hot Laps with no problem
whatsoever.

I have had the same problem but only under Windows 95. I am running GP2
on a P166+, 64Meg SDRAM, Quantum Fireball 3.2G mode 5, Diamond Stealth
3D 2000. It is very annoying considering it runs very well otherwise
even under W95. I run it under DOS with no dramas. Sorry I have no
solution for you!Regards, Harry

Thanks for trying to point us people with this bug to a potential fix,
however I cannot find this utility on this site. Could you give me the
name of the utility?
Thankyou!
Harry
