Is anyone working on a grip or downforce editor for GPL?
It would be nice to have that 68 carset represent the 68 cars visually and
also in grip level / downforce.  I still have trouble getting the power down
with these machines.

I hope the hell not. Online racing would be ruined.

LOL... I second that motion Daisy, and raise you one perpetually
burning inferno and two pitchforks.  Sheesh, first the AI tweaks,
now a grip cheat???   Like, is NFS on backorder or something?

Hear, hear!  This kind of stuff really ruined GP2 from a competitive
standpoint.

Bwahaha!  That was a good one!  But, hey I USE the AI tweaks!  But no grip
editor, please.  See the other posts about how this ruined competitive
racing (online or not).

You have a lot of nerve calling me a want to be cheater buddy.  I would
never get on VROC and race with a hack.  I just want the ability to adjust
GPL to a simulator of years other than 67, so accurate carsets from other
years can be made for those of us who like modern race machines more.  Duh.

I don't think anyone suggested you would be cheating, but I'm sure a lot of
others would, and by doing so ruining the fun at VROC.

Where are these online races at?
I'm about to buy the sim, probably tomorrow along with a wheel and pedals,
so I'm interested to see where it can be raced..

What's a good wheel and pedal?

Simmer down, I didn't call you a cheater, but what you are
proposing _is_ a cheat.  And it _will_ be used online by
cheaters.  This is a death knell for an online game, as far back
as the Falcon 3 Compuserve modem ladder days.  And it goes on to
this day with flight sims.  It is best for the online ***
community that these ideas (cheats) not even be broached... if
you want a post-1967 racing sim, go buy one.

<off-topic snip>

Ric, after you get at least a couple hundred laps under your belt
offline <g>, go to http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc and read the
newbie stuff.  This sim is very very hard... unless you've got
some other car sim time under your belt be prepared to go slow
and with patience... online racing will be frustrating until you
can at least stay on the same lap with the AI offline.  But once
you get there the sense of accomplishment will be gratifying...
IMHO running a clean online race amongst a group of 5 to 10
lustful humans is _almost_ as satisfying as winning one ;-)

The wheel/pedal stuff runs the gamut... I'd hesitate to recommend
anything since it's such a matter of personal preference... but
offhand the Thrustmaster Nascar Pro is probably the best consumer
grade deal at 100 bucks, and at the low end you might still find
a Thrustmaster Grand Prix 1 for 30 bucks (this one has paddles on
the wheel instead of foot pedals).  Stay away from the no-name
arcade stuff... hard to go wrong with Thrustmaster for the price.
There are other wheel/pedal combos that can run up into the
hundreds.

Oh yeah... you'll need a serious P-II and video card to run this
thing in all it's glory.

Thanks for the Info.. I purchased the GPL today.. It is WAY harder than GP2,
and I purchased a Thrustmaster "Nascar Sprint" because I liked the Shifter
on the wheel.. (Although It slowed my lap times down allot in GP2) My
fingers are not as tired anymore!!!!

GPL seems like I'm driving a boat on my first impression.. way too much
wheel spin regardless of car speed.. 3rd gear in the Ferrari and the car
comes around?  I then choose the Lotus, lowest HP it was slightly better,
but the car is still wishy washy....  No sense of car control like in GP2,
(Got lots of laps in GP2)

I'm gonna try GPL with just the Keyboard, and see if that is a change for
the better..

Thanks
Ric

I found it takes a considerable amount of time to unlearn GP2 habits, like
breaking at the 100m mark and applying full throttle 99% of the time. But it
can be done. I am now about to re-learn GP2, which I like most for
hotlapping. Problem is I lift everytime I shift now.

The car has a power band that isn't very wide, so it's ok ... then..... BAM,
there the power is and it may be too much. One needs to anticipate this feature.

I don't think a grip editor is necessary.  The whole key to GPL is THROTTLE
CONTROL.  Once you've mastered that, you're on your way to fast laps!
