When I start up Colin McRae Rally (regardless of whether it's
'game.exe' or 'rally.exe') it always hangs in the menus after
an indeterminate time (from immediately to a couple of minutes).
This is either at the opening menu, or the options menu. I've tried
all sorts of things:
- a number of clean installs of Win95
- directX 6 and 6.1
- different video cards (Riva 128, Diamond Monster Fusion)
- different video drivers (diamond, nvidia, 3dfx reference)
- diferent sound cards (SB16, SB PCI 64, and no sound card)
- different memory
- default and different BIOS settings
- minimum and medium installs of CMR + 1.4 patch (without the patch, it
won't even start up with my original CD ('needs original CD').
I've just upgraded the computer from a 233MMX to a Celeron 366 on
an AOpen AX6BC motherboard (BIOS version 2.2, using a PPGA->slot 1 adapter).
The minimum configuration I've had is video card only, 32 MB RAM, HDD and
CD-ROM drive. No IRQ conflicts.
Everything was working fine before the upgrade, now it appears that
only CMR won't work (other stuff works fine). I'm stumped!
Current system config:
AOpen AX6BC R2.20 motherboard
Celeron 366 (standard 66 MHz bus speed), PPGA->slot 1 adapter
2 x 32 MB DIMMs
Diamond Monster Fusion PCI video card
SB16 sound card
Quantum 6.4 GB EX hard drive
Actima 36x CD-ROM drive
Win 95
DirectX 6.1
Anybody have any clues?
