T1 versus TSW versus ECC?

by Scott M. Pett » Sat, 25 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I'm probably going to buy the TSW driving system ($260).  I currently use a
Thrustmaster T1 which has never broken but just doesn't "feel" like a real car.  Has
anyone tried both the T1 and the TSW units?  How do they compare?  Has anyone tried
the system from Extreme Competition?  Is it that much better than the TSW?

Thanks much in advance...

Scott

T1 versus TSW versus ECC?

Scott,

the ecc system is 459 usd, and worth every penny IMHO. i've had it for
two months and it is actually smoother than the day i got it. it feels
great, with a thick, suede covered wheel, four fire buttons (for gear
shifting etc) on the wheel spokes, and the unit is heavy enough to not
need clamping. the pedals are metal, in a metal box with a non stick,
pad. with icr it is almost plug and play (you have to set the controls
in the game options/controls/configure screen just like any other
controller).

also i have had superb service from ecc, including tips on general
joystick equipment, some technical info, and an unsolicited
refund on excess handling charged BY THE SHIPPING COMPANY!

the unit itself looks good, handles even better, and just makes you feel
like you're behind the wheel of a very quick racing machine. as you may
have noticed, i love this bit of kit!

T1 versus TSW versus ECC?

The ECC sounds like a good wheel, offering identical functionality to
the TSW......but for an extra $180 or so! The TSW offers fire buttons
on the wheel for gear shifts (F1 style) AND a stick a la NASCAR and
Indycar. Either can be used at any time. The quality is immense, it
just feels so effortless and I actually _enjoy_ running NASCAR which I
hated before.

Quite apart from the excellent build quality, sensitivity of wheel
and pedals and the great price, the support on the TSW is unsurpassed.
Any question elicites an immediate response by e-mail from Trevor hte
manufacturer (who is also a top bloke :)!) who thinks nothing of
writing pages until you are happy with his product. If you're not
happy, he takes it personally and WILL sort out the problem!

The final advantage of the TSW (IMO) is that if you feel it could be
improved, drop him an e-mail. If it's good, it could be included in the
next batch, upgrades made etc. Not many manufacturers respond so well
and so quickly to customer input.

Of course the main thing is the control for which I have nothing but
superlatives to say about the TSW.

Cheers!
John
